The 2014 Lucky Loonie

The 2014 Lucky Loonie

Sport is more than an athlete, more than a team. Sport is a community, a country. It brings us together, makes us proud, and fills us with hope. Celebrate Team Canada and our athletes' achievements with the 2014 Lucky Loonie.

THE LUCKY LOONIE STORY

In what is now a legendary tale, a loonie was embedded at centre ice prior to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City to bring good luck to Canada's gold medal-winning men's and women's ice hockey teams.

In 2004, the Royal Canadian Mint created the first lucky Loonie as a way of passing on its special magic to Canadian athletes as they departed for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
