About the Design:

Designed by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais, your coin captures the delicate beauty of a snail in the Canadian landscape. The use of paint over engraving adds a life-like quality to the branch and leaves of a mountain maple (Acer spicatum). With its saw-toothed edges, the leaf looms large in the background, allowing for a size comparison of the coloured Venetian glass element that beautifully recreates the colours and likeness of a snail with its spiral shell. No two glass pieces are alike—each one is unique and handcrafted by master glassmaker Giuliano Donaggio of Murano, Italy which makes each coin a "little" masterpiece in its own right.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.

I will collect the set since I know have two. But I was very disaapointed that they were not the same size as the other Murano set. That way it would of been an addition to the collection I have.

For display with others in the series. Birds and insects hold interest for children in particular. The colors are sharp as are the details. The 3-D image holds interest at many levels. Well done!

I buy beautiful coins now -- for when my young granddaughter grow up, they will have coins older than them and still in quality condition. Teach them how the value of money can increase, and to see the beautiful coins of the past.

                    • Q:

I recently purchased this interesting coin with the assumption that it is a continuation of the Venetian glass "Flora and Fauna" series which featured the ladybug, bumble bee, butterfly, frog and turtle. After further research, I've noticed that this coin is actually the first in a new 3 coin series titled "Little Creatures"? All the details and specifications seem identical to the previous series, including the theme. I am just wondering what exactly is meant to be different with this series and why it isn't just a continuation of the highly successful previous 5 coin series?

                        Hi Jeremy,

We like to refresh series' when possible to offer different reflections of themes. We also like to ensure we showcase themes that are of interest to collectors, so we made sure to keep the subject matter closely linked. While the "Little Creatures" is very similar to the Flora/Fauna series, it is different in that it focuses only on smaller creatures while the last series had an assortment of small (ie/ladybug) and larger (ie/turtle). In short; we kept a popular theme, but refreshed it with a different spin to keep collectors interested.
                        Thanks for your question.

If you look at the other views of the coin you can see the coin in the clamshell as well as from the side where you will be able to see the thickness of the coin and the murano piece.

                        Thanks for your question
