An ideal gift for someone you know who loves butterflies!

The giant sulphur (Colias Gigantea) steals the show on this breathtaking coin. It is one of Canada's largest sulphurs with a wingspan of 37 to 55 mm and is one of the few butterfly species known to inhabit the Arctic. Most people will spot this wonder throughout the northern and western regions of Canada, in moist areas like bogs, meadows and roadside ditches where willows and flowers are plentiful.

A thoughtful gift for nature lovers! Order yours today!

Special features:
  • LENTICULAR 3D BOX: Your coin's beauty box uses a lenticular design to portray the butterfly flapping its wings in a 3D-like manner!
  • This painted and engraved 99.99% pure silver coin features shimmer colour on the butterfly's wings to highlight the intense coloration of the Colias gigantea butterfly.
  • Beautiful mirror-like proof in fine silver.
  • Celebrate the life and habits of a beloved Canadian insect species, beautifully engraved and painted.
  • A low mintage of 10,000 coins means that this edition is sure to be sought after by collectors.
  • A lovely addition to any collection featuring fine artwork, natural images, native species of Canada, butterflies and other insect species, or Canadiana.
  • Your coin is GST/HST exempt and has a limited mintage worldwide.

About the Design:

Designed by Canadian artist Celia Godkin, your coin features a portrait of a Colias gigantea drinking nectar from the heart of a wild strawberry flower. The butterfly, engraved and painted in shimmery, light-reflective colour, is viewed in profile from its right side. Standing on one of two strawberry blossoms engraved in exceptional detail, alongside a bud and three leaves from the same plant, the brightly coloured butterfly characteristically raises its wings as it stands and feeds. Here we are treated to a view of the lovely silver dot on the underside of its wing.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint branded maroon clamshell case lined with flock and protected by a lenticular 3D beauty box, which portrays the butterfly flapping its wings.

I think this is a well designed coin. I like the shimmering green color of the butterfly, which provides a delightful contrast to the high gloss silver background and the wild strawberry flowers.
