Diwali is the most important holiday in India. It's a New Year's celebration that is also known as the "Festival of Lights," and is celebrated by millions of people every year. The notion of light triumphing over dark is incredibly symbolic; so universal that it has inspired cultures around the world for centuries. But Diwali is more than a single flame; it fills homes, streets—and hearts!—with light. Diwali revellers are an incredibly diverse ethno-cultural group. Hindu, Sikh, Jain… every faith has its own Diwali legends, but the unifying thread is always a celebration of good triumphing over evil.

This stunning coin showcases elaborate patterns that typify Indian design. The outermost ring is inspired by an inlay from the Taj Mahal, while trilliums and Pacific dogwood blossoms represent the cities of Toronto (Ontario) and Vancouver (British Columbia), where the largest populations of Indo-Canadians reside.

A stunning keepsake that will become a cherished family heirloom to enrich Diwali celebrations for generations to come. Order yours today!

Special features:
  • Breathtaking in 99.99% pure gold, your coin captures the shimmering essence of the Festival of Lights.
  • Expertly crafted with multiple finishes that bring exceptional detail, dimension and shine to this unique design.
  • An elaborate and ornate design that echoes beauty and symbolism coming together, mirroring the multicultural fabric of Canada.
  • With over a million Indo-Canadians now living in Canada, Diwali is celebrated in communities from coast to coast, enriching the multi-cultural experience of their residents and shining a bright light on Canada as a place of hope and freedom to share one's customs and beliefs.
  • Your coin is GST/HST exempt and has a limited worldwide mintage.

About the Design:
East and West come together in this stunning design by Canadian artist Sarindar Dhaliwal that celebrates Diwali with elaborate patterns that typify Indian textiles, ornamentation and mandalas. A diya (clay lamp) at the coin's centre reflects the essence of the Festival of Lights while symbols from the Hindu, Sikh and Jain faiths form a series of rings around it.

The outermost ring is inspired by an inlay from the Taj Mahal but consists of Canadian symbols. Trilliums and Pacific dogwood blossoms represent the cities of Toronto (Ontario) and Vancouver (British Columbia) where the nation's largest populations of Indo-Canadians reside. Canada's national symbol, the maple leaf, is also present. Maple trees deliver one of the most brilliant displays in autumn, which is a novel delight for many new immigrants to Canada. The maple's changing colour announces the coming dark days of winter, and in its own way, symbolizes the interplay between light and dark that is the essence of Diwali.

Packaging:
Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a unique wooden case enhanced with gold foil design and includes a graphic beauty box.

Comments about 1 oz. Pure Gold Coin – Diwali: Festival of Lights - Mintage: 275 (2015):

Did not buy. But its a great idea by Royal Canadian Mint. Glad to see the recognition given to Indian culture by the Canadian mint. As lot of Indians do buy small or big items of silver or gold for Diwali day each year as a symbol of prosperity as a way of welcoming Goddess Lakshmi Devi to their homes. Now having a Canadian Mint coin with Indian motif would be a great collectible coin who could afford to buy it.

Comments about 1 oz. Pure Gold Coin – Diwali: Festival of Lights - Mintage: 275 (2015):

Love this coin. Just received it today and I am already in love with it. It is a very unique coin, and have all values attached to it – 1) Value as pure one ounce gold, 2) Value as an art piece and 3) Value as a collectible. Adding all this up, coin sure bares a tremendous value going upwards in long term.

Canada is a multicultural country (and I am proud being a part of it) and it has finally started to show that in its precious metals series, too. Of course, the way Canadian mint has issued coins for Diwali (predominantly a Hindu festival) & Chinese culture year coins, I would love to see coins issued on themes like Baisakhi, Hanukkah, Eid, and so on, to depict the multicultural fabric of Canada, which is a very unique quality in its own way. It is a true Unity in Diversity country, and this coin has proved it !

      Thank you so much RCM

Glad to see other, than Chinese, cultures acknowledged

Comments about 1 oz. Pure Gold Coin – Diwali: Festival of Lights - Mintage: 275 (2015):

Cannot afford it, but I must say I am happy that the Mint is finally acknowledging existence of other cultures, not just Chinese. There have been many designs of Chinese coins over the last decade. Sometimes, I feel like Canada is in China. This is a nice breath of fresh air.
