Love it
I love it! It's beautiful, and worth every dollar. It's colour only bends a shad different then the picture; but still beautiful.

A mighty northern resident and a Canadian icon, the caribou (Rangifer tarandus) is perfectly at home in the Canadian boreal forest that is so artfully depicted in the coin's reverse. In the stillness of a cold evening, two caribou and the first snowfall of the season offer the only movement along the tranquil landscape. As is characteristic of low poly art, the rich colour variants add a remarkable vibrancy to the powerful wilderness portrait by recreating light and shadows, which soften the polygons to give a curvature to the caribou's build and soft waves along the river that stretches from side to side.

Designed by Canadian artist Calder Moore, this coin uses "low poly" art, the same technique at the heart of the video game industry. Here, multiple polygon shapes come together to form two caribou making their way across a shallow river in the boreal forest. Amazing sculpting techniques and contrasting finishes define each individual polygon, while the hard lines and sharp corners of the geometric shapes add dramatic texture to the scene.
Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a graphic beauty box.

It's a great looking set, all 5 of them. I appreciate the detail, and they are a nice size/weight too.

Truly a beautiful coin. I wish it was a 2oz coin just so it would be bigger.

Far and away my favorite Royal Canadian Mint coin in my recently started collection of Canadian coins! Beautiful coloring and detail from the 3D look of the Caribou to the trees set against the background of the starry sky. Wonderful coin! A must for everyone's collection!

This is a beautiful coin and minted in the year of our Grandchild. She will have it as a reminder of the year 2016. Thank you Canadian Mint!

This poly-art series is quite unique and have nice "eye appeal". In my opinion, this Caribou issue is the best design so far in this series. The Loon & Polar Bear are well thought out designs, but this one is excellent.

: We use "Fine Silver" and "Pure Silver" interchangeably. Typically in the precious metals business "Fine Silver" denotes a product with at least 99.9% pure silver, or "three nines silver". Here at the Royal Canadian Mint we have some of the purest coins in the world. Our version of "Fine Silver" typically contain 99.99% pure silver or "four nines silver". If you are ever in doubt you can check the product specifications (right hand side of every product page); we always list the metal purity under composition.
