This ingenious coin design brings together a mass of polygons to create a captivating image of a mother polar bear and her cub. Known as “low poly” art in the video game industry, this geometric technique has been merged with outstanding sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques.

The result: a stunning design with exceptional relief that defines every polygon, and rich, bold colours that bring depth, dimension and a powerful sense of shadow and light to the scene.

Special features:
  • EACH POLYGON IS DISTINCT: Each polygon is made distinct from the other through extraordinary sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques, while the application of bold colour adds vibrancy and alters our perception of dimension and light.
  • A fresh, modern take on Canada's timeless icons: The second coin in the inventive new five coin Geometry in Art series, which reinterprets familiar Canadian emblems—the polar bear, the beaver, the caribou, the loon and the maple leaf—in a low poly art style.
  • CUTTING-EDGE TECHNIQUES FOR A DIMENSIONAL DESIGN: Exceptional engraving, relief and the application of different finishing techniques add distinctiveness to the polygon shapes that form the stylized image, resulting in a stunning composition that showcases our exceptional level of craftsmanship and innovative artistic vision!
  • UNIQUE USE OF LOW POLY ART: Breathtaking use of colour: In keeping with the low poly art style, lustrous colours contribute to the perception of depth and shadows; the varying shades of blue and white also help convey the icy feel of the Arctic setting, providing yet another dynamic visual element to the design.
  • An unforgettable addition to any collection—especially those with a wildlife, nature or Canadiana theme, or any that include the beloved symbols that have come to represent this land and its people.
  • Crafted in 99.99% pure silver, your coin is GST/HST exempt!

Design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Calder Moore features a stylized portrait of the “King of the Arctic” and beloved representative of Canada's North, the mighty polar bear (Ursus maritimus). Geometry, technology and art intersect as the entirety of the image is presented in a low poly art style; multiple polygon shapes come together to form a mother bear (left) and her cub (right), with each shape made distinct from the other through extraordinary sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques. Together, they form a touching scene of this iconic species as a mother bear introduces her cub to Canada's Arctic waters; gracefully swimming out, the mother turns to face her young as he gingerly attempts his first few strokes. The hard edges that are characteristic of this style lend themselves beautifully to recreating the Arctic ice above and below the water's surface; yet, it is the application of rich, vibrant colours that brings a dynamic quality to the overall design, infusing it with depth and dimension through different shades of blues and whites which create a playful perception of shadow and light.

Packaging:
Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a graphic beauty box.

I've noticed some of your collector coins have protective, plastic outer shells. Does this also come protected? (and if you could also let me know how to tell in the future for other coins as well please). Thanks, Sam

Sam

Hi Sam, All of our collector coins come encapsulated in a protective outer capsule. We just don't post photos of all our coins in their capsules.

Chad

Hello! I bought the first two coins and now I would like the entire subscription with the wooden box. Is it possible to return the first two coins and start with the subscription or return the clam shell boxes and continue with three more coins? Thank you Lise

regarding geometric 5 coin series, I have loon and polar bear. is it possible to be added to list of future coins which I would like to purchase.

dippah

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we cannot add you to the subscription mid-way through it. Please watch your email inbox for when the next coins are announced.

The mintage states 7,500 for the coin. Does this number include the sets being sold as well... the mintage on the sets also states 7,500. So is the mintage really 7,500 or is it actually 15,000??

Nick Knack

Thank you for your question. Both products share mintage, so for example, the first coin in the series, the loon, has a worldwide mintage of 7,500 which is then shared between the subscription with the fancy collector box, and is also available as a single in a clamshell box.
