MINT FIRST! A uniquely shaped niobium dragonfly! Order yours today!

Bursting with a dizzying array of colours, the natural world boasts an unparalleled beauty that seemingly stuns and dazzles at every turn! Human ingenuity strives to recreate this sparkle of life in art; in a celebration of nature's spectrum of colours, your pure silver coin features a handcrafted, uniquely shaped niobium embellishment that artfully represents a

Canadian darner dragonfly (Aeshna canadensis) basking in the sunlight. Our first one-ounce pure silver coin with a niobium embellishment! Order today!

Special features:
  • A MINT FIRST! The first coin to feature a uniquely shaped niobium embellishment, which offers an artistic representation of an iridescent dragonfly on one ounce of pure silver.
  • EACH DRAGONFLY IS A UNIQUE PIECE OF ART! Handcrafted by jewellery artist Karen Hunter of Caledon, Ontario, your dragonfly-shaped niobium embellishment catches your eye with its blue and violet hues, which artfully mimic the dragonfly's iridescent appearance in the sunlight.
  • UNIQUE NIOBIUM EMBELLISHMENT! The niobium was exposed to electricity to produce a transparent oxide film that refracts light. Different voltages generate different thicknesses that, in turn, create different colours—and a totally unique dragonfly for you to enjoy!
  • AN ARTISTIC COLLABORATION! Your coin was the collaboration of two artists! The pure silver coin was designed by Canadian artist Emily Damstra, while the niobium embellishment was handcrafted by Canadian jewellery artist artist Karen Hunter!
  • ONE-OUNCE 99.99% PURE SILVER COIN! Your coin is GST/HST exempt!
  • LOW MINTAGE: Only 6,000 coins will be made available worldwide. Hurry and order yours today before they are all gone!

Design:

Handcrafted by jewellery artist Karen Hunter of Caledon, Ontario, a dragonfly-shaped niobium embellishment catches the eye with its blue and violet hues, which artfully mimic the dragonfly's iridescent appearance in the sunlight. The reverse design by Canadian artist Emily Damstra captures the beauty of a tranquil aquatic setting on a bright summer day. The dragonfly's graceful landing has set off gentle ripples in the mirror-like surface of the water, whose shine provides a beautiful backdrop for the frosted lily pad. This floating leaf is dotted with droplets of water that seem to glisten in the light, further adding to the life-like look and feel of the dragonfly's serene natural environment.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a graphic beauty box.

This dragonfly coin is different from the previous issued dragonfly coin from the RCM. It look very 3D and outstanding. Price is a little bit on the high side but worth it.

The title is meh. I am not overwhelmed. For a first niobium coin it is average. There could have been more detail on the dragonfly - perhaps with additional wings reflected underneath. I have niobium coins from other countries. This looks like a thin stamped piece of blue metal glued to a coin. The mint could have done a better job. The saving grace is the < 10k mintage.

There are so many 1 ozs coin that have the same composition, same weight, same diameter, and same face value of 20$, how does the mint come up with the price range, some are very expensive, and some are a little over hundred dollars, ????

Mo

This coin specifically includes a unique embellishment, a dragonfly, which is a hand crafted piece of niobium. This affects the retail price.

Matt (Product Team)

I want this coin but for the 2016 year. Your image on the website shows 2017. If I order the coin can I get the 2016 version, if so how do I order it?

Iggy

Sorry - this coin is only available with the 2017 date.
