About the Design:

In commemoration of the 2016 Royal Tour of Canada, the coin features a full colour application that recreates photographer Chris Jelf’s portrait of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The touching image is framed by an outer rim that includes four engraved maple leaves to represent each member of this Royal Family, along with the engraved word “CANADA”, the face value “20 DOLLARS” and the year “2016”.

Did you know...
  • The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first tour to Canada was in 2011—their first overseas tour after the Royal Wedding on April 29, 2011! Stops included Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Charlottetown, Summerside, Yellowknife, Slave Lake and Calgary.
  • The 2016 Royal Tour was The Duke of Cambridge’s third official tour to Canada, and his first official tour to Yukon and British Columbia. Prince William has previously toured British Columbia, but not in an official capacity: he enjoyed a skiing vacation at Whistler in 1998.
  • A Royal presence on Canadian soil is a tradition that dates back to more than 200 years! The first member of the Royal Family to set foot here was Prince William (the future King William IV), who travelled to Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and then-Province of Canada in 1786 while serving in the Royal Navy.
  • The Royal Tour of 1939 marked the first time a reigning monarch visited Canada. Enthusiastic crowds greeted King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at every stop during the 29-day cross-country voyage, which was commemorated by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2014 with the issue of three numismatic coins.

About the Package:

Are we not losing the importance of their trip to Canada???

As a coin collector since 1966 I find this does not portray their visit to Canada and shouldn't be called as such. You state this picture will attract a larger audience but you also state it is a symbol of Royal Visit. I do n0t believe it is. I believe the mint is the only one to profit from the larger audience.

Good morning, I am rather surprised that the image on the coin isn't from their visit to Canada, but rather one previously issued by Kensington Palace? Is there a reason for that? Thanks, Norman

Norman

Hello, we believe the image used on the coin would appeal to a broad range of collectors.

Matt (Product Team)

Will this tarnish because it is not protected? Just wondering about the case, as I haven't bought a coin before. Thanks.

Judy

Hi Judy, When coins are exposed to air the metal can oxidize and change colour. Although a shiny finish might seem better, experienced collectors prefer a coin's original appearance. As a rule, avoid cleaning your coins. Even wiping coins with a soft cloth may damage their finish and drastically reduce their value. http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/learn/caring-for-your-collection-1200006

Shouldn't the picture on the coin be from their visit to Canada, not an old photo of the family? It is in honor of the Royal Tour of Canada right? Seems a little off to me.

Judy

Hi Judy - thanks for the feedback. I will share with the product team.

Is the picture engraved right in the coin or is it a pictured that is glued on it

Jojo

Hello, The photo is a colour image that is applied directly on the coin. It is not a sticker.
