First in the new Prehistoric Animals Series!

Despite the species' extinction 10,000 years ago, the woolly mammoth continues to inspire and intrigue many who identify it with the last glacial period. With this finely detailed gold coin, the Royal Canadian Mint celebrates this impressive mammal that once roamed parts of present-day Canada.

The mammoth fills nearly the entire face of the coin, shown in a striking side profile, sculpted in exceptional detail. Order yours today!

Special features:
•   First in the new Prehistoric Animals Series!
•   Image fills almost the entire coin!
•   The fur of the mammoth has been given a soft matte finish that contrasts against the brilliant background and pulls the mammoth toward the viewer.
•   Your coin is GST/HST exempt with a limited worldwide mintage.

The coin features a scientifically accurate depiction of a woolly mammoth, verified by paleontologists from the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology. With its head raised, the mammoth's trunk is outstretched between its famously long, curved tusks. The thick, coarse fur that enables it to survive the colder temperatures is shorter here, reflecting the moulting that scientists believe took place in the early summer. The mammoth's extra hump of fat is seen over the shoulders and in the background, the low grasses and gentle sloping hills of the mammoth's habitat stretches past the image's outer rim on both sides.

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.

Challenging to Display such a Small Coin

Not wanting to squirrel away this coin, I had hoped to have it framed against a dark matte background and accompanied with a print text--perhaps on a promo card from the Mint offering pertinent information: e.g., the coin is a first of a series, interesting characteristics of this coin, and reasons why the Mint chose a mammoth. I was disappointed to receive the coin without such a write-up. Without such a print element, it makes it more challenging to display a coin that is barely larger than a dime...

Nice coin- wish it was bigger!!!

Nice gold coin, but didn't expect to be this Small for the value asked...Size as a dime...This detailed Woolly Mammoth deserves to be appreciated in a bigger size coin at a decent price value, which can give room for decent investment (to the buyer not seller).
