About each coin design:

First coin: Captain James T. Kirk
Your coin features a side-by-side depiction of the beloved Star Trek captain and the ship that is forever associated with him. On the left side is the coloured image of Captain James T. Kirk (portrayed by Canadian actor William Shatner) in a gold-coloured uniform as he commands the crew from his chair on the bridge. To the right, the U.S.S. Enterprise is painstakingly recreated in extraordinary detail, thanks to intricate engraving along its saucer-shaped hull and twin warp nacelles. The two elements casually overlap the outline of Starfleet's Delta Shield Insignia engraved in the background.

Second coin: Chief Engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott
Your coin features selective colour and detailed engraving in the side-by-side depiction of a beloved Star Trek character, and the innovative Trek technology that is associated with him. On the left side is the coloured portrait of Chief Engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott (portrayed by Canadian actor James Doohan); wearing the red uniform of the operations division, Scotty holds the hand-held device through which the famous command “Beam me up” was relayed: the communicator. A larger, engraved depiction of the communicator is featured to the right, allowing the viewer to examine its iconic flip top cover, its controls and speaker, and even its inner wiring and components. The two images casually overlap the engraved outline of Starfleet's Delta Shield Insignia in the background.

Third coin: Communications Officer Uhura
Your coin features selective colour and detailed engraving in the side-by-side depiction of a beloved Star Trek character, and the innovative Trek technology that is often associated with her. On the left side is a portrait of Communications Officer Nyota Uhura (portrayed by actress Nichelle Nichols) in a red uniform as she holds the scientific device designed for data sensing and analysis: the tricorder. A larger engraved rendering of a tricorder is to the right and offers a closer glimpse of the screen on its rotating hood, its control buttons and compartments, and the shoulder strap that allows it to be carried during away missions. Both Uhura and the tricorder casually overlap the outline of Starfleet's Delta Shield Insignia engraved in the background.

Fourth coin: First Officer Spock
Your coin features selective colour and detailed engraving in the side-by-side depiction of a beloved Star Trek character with famous Trek technology. To the left is a portrait of First Officer Spock (portrayed by actor Leonard Nimoy) wearing a blue Starfleet uniform and in a state of alert, as he points his phaser pistol toward an unseen threat. To the right, an engraved depiction of the futuristic weapon offers the viewer a closer glimpse of the phaser pistol that was introduced in The Original Series. Both Spock and the phaser pistol overlap the outline of Starfleet's Delta Shield Insignia engraved in the background.

Packaging:

Durable yet lightweight, the colourful packaging for each coin boasts a contemporary design and features an illustrated portrait of each Star Trek character alongside the Star Trek 50th anniversary logo.

Beautifully done but no Bones!

4

My Personal Collection I took away one star because of the exclusion of Dr. McCoy. I realize that Uhura was an important character (and probably was included to be politically correct), but the show really revolved around Kirk, Spock and McCoy. That said, the coins are really very nice, the colour was not over done like on some coins, just enough make them stand out. Please RCM, make one more coin with Dr. McCoy! It will sell.

Disappointed!

Will not be buying these coins as the omission of Dr McCoy will always make this set incomplete.

vibrant!

I got to see the first coin of this series (Kirk) in the flesh today and was amazed at how vibrant the colour is. The image really stands out and the quality is top notch. It presents slightly larger than its real world circumference and shows very well indeed. It really is too bad there is no case for these coins outside the individual box, but the presentation box itself, with the tech device on it, is unique in its own right.

Where is Dr. McCoy Bones

Since the 60's I have watched Star Trek and not to see Dr. McCoy or known as bones not in this collection just doesn't make sense. He should have been one of the 4 I would have thought that the girl would have been choice #5 not 1 of the 4. Disappointed but did order.

I LOVE IT!

Love these coins! Don't usually write reviews but I wanted to express my gratitude. I collect coins and not Star Trek memorabilia. I purchased two Captain Kirk coins. How could I pass up on the 50 year anniversary, Canadian actor and highly collectable memorabilia. I can't wait for Spook to come out. The coins design looks retro just like the old TV series of I loved as a child. The coins are absolutely perfect I wouldn't change a thing about them. I agree with the others, it would of been a better set if McCoy was included. Also, a special box to show case the set instead of the standard clam shell, but the bright side is the individual illustration on the packaging. Maybe a matter of personal taste but this is my favorite coin so far that the RCM put out this year.

Excellent Set

Excellent high quality images. An excellent gift for any fan of the original Star Trek series. Agree with other reviews that this set should be expanded to include coins for Dr. McCoy, Sulu and Chekov.

Where's McCoy?

3

I like the idea of the Star Trek coins, particularly since there is a strong Canadian connection with actors William Shatner and James Doohan. But I'm baffled at the the omission of Doctor McCoy. The three main characters from the original TV series were Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Scotty was a strong fourth. Uhura, Sulu, Checkov, and Chapel were supporting characters. So really McCoy should have been in this series. If you wanted to include the supporting characters, then you should have expanded the series to 7 or 8 coins.

Missing Characters

4

This should be a 7 piece set. Where are the other 3 main characters? Everybody who knows Star Trek knows its 3 main characters are Kirk, Spock, and McCoy ("Bones") - yet he is quite noticeably missing from this offering, and of course so are the remaining two: Sulu and Chekov.

I see my order was placed as a subscription. Does that mean you will automatically ship the other three coins to me when they are available, or do I have to order each individual coin ? I don't want to miss the other three coins.

TrekFan14

Yes - each coin will ship automatically. No further action is required on your part to complete the set.

Sorry I am new at this!!! When you say 100% money back guarantee, I'm guessing it means if we are not satisfied with the product we can return it for a full refund??? For the coin itself, its value is $10 but you pay $54.95, for the design??? If you want the value you paid for the coin you would need to sell it to a collector, right?

Sophie

Hi Sophie, Correct, you may return any product you've purchased within 30 days for a full refund. The face value of each coin in this subscription is $10 and costs $54.95 because of the limited number of coins produced. The Royal Canadian Mint does not appraise the value of coins. Appraisals may vary from one dealer to the next, so we suggest you shop around.

Chad

where is Dr. McCoy and a nice case to hold all the coins? PLMK Thanks D.I.

DI

Thank you for your question. There are no further Star Trek coins planned at this time.

Uyen (Product Team)

Being the end of July already, if I subscribe to buy all 4 coins. When should I expect to receive and be charged for the coins which have already been issued?

Mike

Thank you for your question. This subscription is set up to ship one coin each month from when the order is created.

Are these coins encapsulated?

crw

Yes they are.

I have already purchased the "Kirk" silver 10 dollar coin. Would like to purchase the other 3 when available starting with Scotty in July. Is it possible to be on the List?

Ronnie

The other 3 coins are only available from us in a four coin set at this time.

Where can the names of the artists that created the reverse (Star Trek) art on the coins be found? The specifications only list the artist responsible for the obverse (Heads) (Queen) side of the coin.

DoohanTwenty

Thank you for your question. Since this is a licensed product, the images are provided by a licensee, and therefore feature a legal trademark rather than the name of the artist.

Uyen (Product Team)

Canada Post please answer the question about buying just one coin and not set! I don't care what other people think, I want the facts not opinions. Thank you

Wade

The Royal Canadian Mint are only offering coins in a four coin set at this time. Canada Post and other official dealers may offer the coins individually. You can find a list of our dealers at this link: http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/customer-service/dealer-locator-1400026

Please advise whether the individual coin of this 4-coin set can be purchased from the Canada Post. Thanks.

Akela

Hi Akela, Sorry but we don't track the status of stock at official dealers. Please contact them directly: http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/customer-service/dealer-locator-1400026

Yes, it can. I saw the Kirk coin today at my local post office outlet.

uʍopǝpısdn

Just one question, why no Dr. McCoy? In the original series, the three "main" characters who were focused on most were Kirk, Spock, and McCoy... something that became even more pronounced in the first six films. Uhura seems out-of-place in this set, given McCoy's absence. Unless there's a future 3-coin subscription planned for later in the year that completes the main cast...

Andrew

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the feedback. "Bones" or Dr. Leonard McCoy (portrayed by DeForest Kelley) is available in the 1 oz set. There are no further Star Trek coins planned at this time.
