NEW FLATBAR TECHNIQUE! Magnificent Chinese Silver Notes depicting the twelve signs of the Lunar calendar on the new flatbar technique! Order today!

The origin of the Chinese Animal Signs of the Zodiac: A legend from ancient China
Buddha invited all of the animals of creation to join him in celebrating the New Year’s Festival. But only twelve animals accepted his invitation. To reward them for attending, Buddha gave each of them mastery of one year according to the order in which  they arrived.

The Rat was the first to appear which made him first in the series. Actually, this honour should have been bestowed on the Ox but, after riding on his back on the way to  Buddha, the Rat leapt in front of the Ox just before they arrived. That is why Rat is at the start of the Chinese lunar calendar.

A wonderful gift for someone who enjoys the Lunar calendar! Order today!

Ox: Peaceful and dependable
Organisation is half the battle: This sentence could have come from an Ox because he loves to be well-organised and structured. The years of the Ox: 1901, 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009.

Dragons are not terrifying at all because whoever is born under this sign is regarded as an energetic and generous person. Keep a very close eye on everything first – this is the snake's motto, everything impulsive and ill-judged is alien to him. He draws intelligent conclusions from his observations, his razor-sharp mind helping him in the process. Behind this somewhat unapproachable shell, lies a gentle, kind-hearted person. The years of the Snake: 1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013.

The years of the Sheep: 1907, 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015.

Just when you think you are getting to know the Rooster, he surprises you with another facet of his personality. Is this a set only or will it be sold individually?

Hi Jason, We're only selling these silver notes together as a 12-piece set.

With regards to this Silver Notes set and with comparison to the China Post of the Chinese Zodiac Stamps between 2004-2015, I do not see a consistency with the Rooster and the Dog. For example, if you look at the 2004 China Post Stamp of the Monkey, it is consistent with the picture of the Monkey on the Silver Note. If you look at the 2008 China Post Stamp of the Rat, it is consistent with the picture of the Rat on the Silver Note. Was this intended? If so, was the Rooster and Dog a new design?

The designers of this set licensed the images for use on both stamps and silver notes.

What's the size of each silver note? Is "150 mm x 70 mm x 0.4522 mm" for each note or the entire 12 silver notes?

The dimensions are for each note, not the complete collection.

Josh (Product Team)

Is it a Canadian Bill? A Chinese note, made in Germany, sold in Canada. with no production end date. I can barely see them, they need to "zoom" in much larger and also show both sides. What is the box made of, cardboard or wood? At almost 500.00 I'd expect something very solid to store them in.

These silver notes are not bills. They are collectible 5 gram silver notes with no denomination and are not currency. They are sold worldwide by the manufacturer. They are an interesting new technology that features finely detailed artwork accented with vibrant colour, on a very thin silver surface. Hovering your cursor over any of the images will zoom the area so you can see all of the details. The obverse image is common to all the notes and is the last image shown on the web page. As the notes are extremely thin, the folder provided for the collection is made of card stock.

Josh (Product Team)

How many OZ are each zodiac and are they in coin or bar form?

Each note weighs 5grams, which is approx. 0.16 troy oz. These are not coins, they are silver commemorative notes.

Josh (Product Team)

Is the silver content 1 oz. per bar and is the silver .999 % pure ?

Old Guy

As noted in the specifications, each bar is 5g of 99.9% silver.

Josh (Product Team)

Will the Mint let members know how many of this set will ever be made?

As there is no declared mintage for this product, there will not be a final mintage announced. These sets are purchased from MDM in Germany, so they control the quantity produced.

Josh (Product Team)

What does the inscription on the reverse translate to in English? Is the back of the coin the same for each one?

This text translates to "China Lunar Silver" and is the same on each note.

Is the $479.40 the price for the whole set of 12, or is it the price for each individual note?

Suzie-Q from Victoria, you can purchase the Lunar Silver Notes as either a set or a subscription. In this case, you're asking about the set, so it is $479.40 for the whole set of 12. And what's great about ordering the set is that you get all the notes at once so it is easier to gift if that's what you're planning.
