NEW FLATBAR TECHNIQUE! Magnificent Chinese Silver Notes depicting the twelve signs of the Lunar calendar on the new flatbar technique! Order today!

The origin of the Chinese Animal Signs of the Zodiac: A legend from ancient China
Buddha invited all of the animals of creation to join him in celebrating the New Year’s Festival. But only twelve animals accepted his invitation. To reward them for attending, Buddha gave each of them mastery of one year according to the order in which  they arrived.

The Rat was the first to appear which made him first in the series. Actually, this honour should have been bestowed on the Ox but, after riding on his back on the way to  Buddha, the Rat leapt in front of the Ox just before they arrived. That is why Rat is at the start of the Chinese lunar calendar.

A wonderful gift for someone who enjoys the Lunar calendar! Order today!

    Hello,

Using the dimensions listed of 140mm by 70mm by 0.015mm, the weight of the note based on the density of pure silver comes out to approx 1.5g rather than the 5g listed. Could you please confirm the specs?

  • Q:

    Hi Josh,
I do not think you answered my question though. While other 11 animals have kind of floral cute design, the "Tiger" looks like a 3D figurine with a huge glyph in the background.

    Answer:
"Each design is slightly different stylistically, which gives the complete set a wide variety of artistic impressions."
Josh (Product Team) from Royal Canadian Mint

    Your Question:
"The design and theme of the silver notes seem to be consistent until you see "Tiger". Why is it so different?"
Asked on 9/20/2016 by Eugene from Calgary, AB

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Sounds like this is a question of artistic interpretation. The Ox, Rooster and Pig also have a different style than the other creatures for example. I do see the 3 dimensional component with the Tiger. The Pig also has a bit of added dimension, but it is more subtle. I don't believe there is a specific reason for the differences between any of the styles. We have reached out to the supplier of this product for any specifics regarding the stylistic choices, but believe it is simply a matter of the designers interpretations and creativity for how each design was created.
