Comments about Royal Canadian Mint Fine Silver 10-Coin Subscription - Exploring Canada (2014):

I recieved the forst 2 coins and was impressed with the quality of the coins.

I read the reviews about the box but decided to reserve judgement on it for later when I actually got to see it in person.

Well I have the 1st, 2nd and 4th coins but not the 3rd or the box. Not quite sure what happened here but I have made an inquiry about it but no explanation as of yet.

Received the 2nd coin in the series today "The Gold Rush" My first impression was "cool" then I noticed Why would the RCM have a name plate on a coin... Off I go to see if I could find another photo of the coin somewhere - could only find the artist rendering which clearly depicts a lake with waves and a shoreline in behind the prospector - the coin has a blank rectangular mirrored rectangle with no waves or shoreline - looks like a name plate - Hopefully I have an error coin and the actual coin is a better representation of the artist rendering.

I have purchased many coins from Canada and my grndchildren would be happy with these coins but based upon comments from others, would be ashamed to give these to the kids in the cardboard box. All the coins we buy from US Mint are in high quality boxes and are proudly displayed by my grandchidren. Too bad because the series sounds real neat

I collect coins with nautical themes, not sets, so I don't really care about the box. What impressed me about this one was the very high quality art, splashing water, determined paddlers, and, of course, its reflection of our early history. Kudos to John Mantha for a stunning design.

Just received my first coin in this new series and RCM have another hit on their hands. Great detail on this coin and I know all the rest of the coins will be the same. But I must agree with other commenters and say the cardboard box just doesn't cut it. The U.S.A. Mint puts out great awesome looking lacquered wooden boxes for many of their coins and the same should have been done here. The RCM produces great looking coins and that is why I collect them but it would be nice to display them in a great looking box also. Even if the cost is higher for the box, they should give that option to the buyer.

A wonderful set depicting the early days of Canadian exploration. The coins as usual are of a unique design and well minted. My only complaint is with the display case. I have always looked forward to the lovely display cases that the RCM provides with its collections, however, the recent O'Canada set and this set are accompanied by a much lower quality cardboard excuse for a case. PLEASE, even if it costs a few dollars more per coin, go back to the lovely wooden cases of the past.

First thing, I really like the box. Yes, it is cardboard, but it's not flimsy and it has the pro of showcasing some design elements. Like with the O Canada series this year, I was excited for this style of box, something different and attractive to put on display, on this same note, I keep my O Canada 2013 series in the wooden box, and in the cardboard case that this wooden box came in. I have countless wooden boxes with the RCM logo branded on the top, showcasing many different sets that I own and I appreciate the differentiation that RCM is trying to establish for their different sets. These coins are well designed, a great value, and highlight different aspects of Canadian history. A wooden box doesn't make a great set, the coins and their artistry does.

First about the box. I thought the same thing about the box, but when I perchased the O Canada series the box was well made & displays the coins nicely also each card on the lid. Now for the coins. They show beautiful images of our history. If you have small children, ready to learn things. What a better way but through our coins. My children are older now but I have taught them alot through coins. Thank you again RCM. P.S. The box is beautiful.

The coins look good, and I would love to subscribe. However, I am put off by the cheap box. I would love to have the coins, but I would really appreciate having a higher quality display box, like some of the other subscriptions have. We are being asked to pay a total of $549.50 for this set. For that price we should have a higher quality, wood box. Even if the price were a few dollars higher per coin, it would be worth it to have a high quality wood display box. I still have not decided whether or not I will subscribe. Yes, if it included a better box that would have made the difference. RCM, please keep this in mind when offering future subscriptions.
