Scintillating with the blue intensity of a cloudless summer sky, the sapphire is thought to bring peace of mind and a sense of calmness to the beholder. To those born in September, this beautiful gem is said to protect from envy, harm and ill health, while bringing truth, loyalty and clarity of thought.

Special features:
  • Each superb coin in this 12-coin series is embedded with a genuine, gem-toned Swarovski® crystal embellishment that replicates the colours of the month's birthstone.
  • The engraved elements are beautifully rendered in fine detail to create a collectible piece of art that holds a timeless appeal.
  • A traditional symbol of power and strength, the intricately engraved dragon is positioned over a lotus pattern to symbolize purity of the heart and mind, while the crystal adds the unique virtues it represents.
  • Crafted from 99.99% pure silver.
  • A gorgeous keepsake that celebrates a person's individuality.
  • Your coin is GST/HST exempt with a limited mintage worldwide.

Design:

The reverse design by Three Degrees Creative Group is both visually compelling and richly symbolic, with a thoughtful melding of traditional and contemporary design elements. In the background, a beautifully engraved lotus pattern fills the reverse in a modern take on the blooms that traditionally symbolize purity of the heart and mind. A majestic, mid-relief dragon is brought to life through intricate engraving that recreates it in extraordinary detail; its presence also carries a strong meaning, as the dragon is a time-honoured symbol of power, strength and good luck in Asian mythology. Above it, a traditional circular motif bears a Swarovski crystal embellishment that represents sapphire, the birthstone for September, which is said to bring wisdom and calm to those born in the month. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

  • In the Middle Ages, the clergy wore sapphires as a symbol for heaven while commoners thought it attracted blessings.
  • A blue sapphire's colour can range from light to dark greenish or a deep violet-blue; but as a corundum type of gem, sapphires can actually occur in all kinds of colours (except red).
  • Sapphires are found throughout Southeast Asia.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.

        A:

Thank you for your question. The October coin will be available to the public on September 6, 2016, and the November coin will be available to the public on October 4, 2016. This also means they should be available in the Mint boutiques as well on those days.
