Your pure silver coin is a poignant tribute to firefighters and the dangers they face every time they answer the call of duty. The background features a burning home while selective colour highlights the firefighter in the foreground. He has just emerged from the house with the family dog—a heartwarming image that reflects the depth of a firefighter's commitment to preserve and protect all life.

A heartfelt way to recognize the valour and dedication of these men and women, who face danger each day in the line of duty! Order today!

Special features:
  • FIRST coin in a new series that honours our everyday heroes, and pays tribute to their dedication to their community and beyond. Other coins in the series include: paramedics, police, and military.
  • Selective colour over engraving brings to life this depiction of a courageous firefighter in action.
  • Crafted in 99.99% pure silver, your coin is GST/HST exempt!

About the Design:

Designed by Canadian artist Ken Ryan, your coin uses selective colour over engraving to create a timeless portrait of a firefighter in the line of duty. In the engraved background, flames and smoke pour out of a residential home as the firefighter emerges in the foreground; he is depicted in full turnout gear, including a red helmet with visor and a tan-coloured jacket with reflective yellow-green and silver trim. Beneath the visor, the firefighter's self-contained breathing apparatus is visible—this protects him from the dangers of exposure and smoke inhalation in a fiery environment. In his right hand, the firefighter holds a pike pole, used to pull apart debris. His left hand cradles a dog that he has rescued from inside the home and is carrying to safety.

Did you know…
  • There are an estimated 22,000 professional firefighters in Canada, and more than 85,000 volunteer firefighters.
  • Firefighters must contend with much more than just fire—they are trained for search and rescue operations, hazardous materials, medical emergencies, auto accidents and more!
  • …wherever flames may rage / give me strength to save a life / whatever be its age… These three lines speak of the selflessness of firefighting and are from A Firefighter's Prayer, which is well known among firefighters across North America.
  • Until the 1800s, firefighters wore little protective gear, save for clothing to keep them warm; as such, few dared to enter a burning building.

I have this coin on show with my other collector items that represent my collection of Jack Russell Terriers. Love the fact that it shows the LOVE, DEVOTION & COMPASSION of a fire fighter and how hard his job really is, that he would even go back for the family pet. Pets mean the world to the owner and to have the devastation of your home burning, only to find you have lost your pet would crush someones world. Brave Men/Women.

My understanding is that this series will also be released on regular circulation quarters, is this correct??

DG

This is not correct. These coins will only be released as collectors coins at this time.

Anonymous

So I have I guess, a stupid question - but i honestly don't know; why is the face value $15 and you are selling it just under $70?

Ottawa raised

As a collector coin, its price is influenced by several different factors such as its composition, its handcrafting, manufacturing innovations (such as colouring over relief) and its limited mintage. It is also non-circulating legal tender, which means it has to show a face value. Showing a face value lower than the retail price also discourages the circulation of these coins and protects the Mint against precious metal price volatility.

Is the firefighter painted on the coin or part of the coin??

Michael

Hi Michael, Selective colouring is applied over the engraving of the firefighter.

What size floating box would you recommend for this coin

Darrell

Hi Darrell, This coin has a diameter of 36.07 millimetres so it would fit in the 80 mm x 80 mm x 34 mm floating frame but would have a bit extra room in the 100 mm x 100 mm x 34 mm floating frame. All the frames have a rim width of 15mm (each side). So to calcualte the size of the display area simply subtract 30 millimetres from the height and width. So the 80mm x 80mm coin frame has a display area of 50mm x 50mm, large enough for this 36.07mm coin.
