Celebrate Culture Days at the Mint with Free Tours, Meet an Engraver, a Design Your Own Coin Contest, and More!

Back to Listing

Through innovative coin themes, the Royal Canadian Mint has been celebrating Canada's history, culture and values since 1908.  As a fun and educational destination during Culture Days 2013, we invite you to visit the Mint for a free tour of our Winnipeg and Ottawa production facilities.

In Ottawa, you'll learn how the best collectible and bullion coins in the world are made, and ask questions along the way.  You'll also get a closer look at the Vancouver 2010 athlete medals, which were produced by the Mint, meet one of our engravers, and get your picture taken with a real gold bar!

In Winnipeg you'll learn how the Mint produces all of the coins that we see in our change, and for many countries around the world - over one billion coins are produced there each year!

If you can't make it to one of our production facilities for a tour, you can still celebrate Culture Days with the Royal Canadian Mint by taking part in our drawing contest to “Design Your Own Coin.” Just download the coin colour page, read the contest rules, and come-up with a creative way to showcase the theme: Community and Culture. Submit your entry by mail or email by the October 11, 2013 deadline.  A team of Mint employees will choose the winning designs in each age category.  You could win a visit from one of the Mint's engravers to your classroom!

Culture Days is a collaborative coast-to-coast volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

We're looking forward to seeing you!
