The enactment of the British North America Act is a defining moment for Canada. Shaped by the vision of the Confederation delegates to conferences in Charlottetown, Québec, and London, this constitutional act began the process of uniting British North American colonies into one political entity: the Dominion of Canada. In 1867 the founding four provinces were Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Québec.  In the years that followed others joined Confederation: Manitoba (1870), Northwest Territories (1870), British Columbia (1871), Prince Edward Island (1873), Yukon (1898), Alberta (1905), Saskatchewan (1905), Newfoundland (1949) and Nunavut (1999).

The terms of Confederation provided the framework for this new nation, which was built on the federal union of provinces. It defined Canada's executive, legislative and judicial systems, and outlined the division of power between the federal and provincial governments. In short, Confederation is the foundation for Canada as we know it today.

The 150th anniversary of Confederation represents an important milestone for Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Our country's sesquicentennial is an extraordinary opportunity to come together and reflect on our past, take pride in our shared values and achievements, and share our hopeful vision for the future.

Beautiful but...

Very beautiful, but spread over bullion is way too much. Problem appears to be common to much of Mint's production, and it is particularly evident in this case, at about 15x (i.e bullion value ~ 0.7k, price 10k+ so 10/.7=~ 15x). Quality of piece is evident, packaging is perhaps excessive, then again to justify 15x requires committed collectors and impressive packaging! It woudl be ideal to see a more transparent marketing. For example: as of today coin is concurrently available at the mint and at a steep discount (10%+) thru some official dealers. Not fun. This is frankly disheartening, and in my respectful opinion it is also evidence of greed and poor pricing by Mint. Eventually even the most naive of Canadian collectors will discover this and abandon the Mint. Possible solutions: Mint should cut discount offered to dealers, and promote a policy of price discounts by increasing volume of purchases by individual direct clients. Best clients, say over 10-15k/year should in my opinion have access to a price discount schedule similar to what offered to retailers. By the same token the 15k over bullion is ridiculously high. In addition, Mint should not allow issues of bullion coins at 1.2-1.5x over bullion (certain kilo silver available thru same official dealers), marked "Canada" and with a dollar value, and Her Majesty. This - likely not known by the average collector - is confusing and damages perceptions of collectors. Not the first time I comment on these issues, yet nobody from Mint has contacted me to discuss / understand better. Pity!
