Royal Canadian Mint is hiring a Quality Systems Engineer who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Manager, Quality Systems, the Quality Systems Engineer is responsible for the coordination and management of the Quality Management System. Ensures all business activities comply with the ISO 9001:2015 requirements and assists in conducting and delivering audits. Co-ordinates, audits, tracks, facilitate and assist with all process-related activities of the Winnipeg Plant. The incumbent will provide support to the Mangers and the Process Engineers in administering the Corrective & Preventive Action Request (CPAR) and Non-Conforming Material Review (NCMR) process. The incumbent is primarily an individual contributor but may be asked on occasion to lead a team of approximately 3 people.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the ISO certification by maintaining and update the quality manual, operational procedures, forms, work instructions, process control plans and process specifications to improve business activities and optimize productivity.
  • Ensure the management reviews are held and notes/minutes are kept to meet the ISO standards
  • Ensure that all records are kept and easily accessible for the purposes of the audit
  • Assist in evaluating, updating and developing work instructions and Process Control Plans
  • Manage and maintain the Quality Management System Infrastructure (W.I.S.E.)
  • Manage documentation system throughout the RCM.
  • Act as backup for the Senior QS Engineer and the QS Manager by helping run the QA lab, attending signoff and Material Review Board meetings. As well as helping manage supplier performance.
  • Review findings and creation of corrective action requests and update procedures as required.
  • Perform internal audits and help manage external certification audits.
  • Manage key performance indicators required for management review. Ensure accuracy of data, determine trends and propose actions based on the trends.
  • Support the Health, Safety and Environment section in the integration of the management systems with the Quality Management System.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement through process audits, and by analyzing adverse quality trends.
  • Assist in continuous process improvements, including the use of various problem solving and productivity techniques such as process mapping and cost benefit analysis.
  • Update and monitor NCMR’s and CPAR’s systems by entering information into the databases, analyzing data and planning solutions, and resolving problems relating to NCMR and CPAR’s
  • Conduct data analysis on key contractual requirements from customers
  • Help address production issues on the floor (both internal and external)
  • Recruit auditors as well as train and schedule audits.
  • Act as a facilitator in root cause, corrective action and 6 sigma projects. Employ problem solving techniques to resolve process problems.



  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Member of an accredited Association of a Provincial Professional Engineers (e.g. A.P.E.G. M.) or eligible to become a member
  • Minimum of 3 years of related business experience in helping manage an ISO9001 system in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001, and/or OHSAS18001
  • Internal auditor for ISO9001:2015
  • Risk based decision maker
  • Software skills (Microsoft suite, Minitab, SPC)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to express a message and share information openly and honestly.
