A gorgeous Pacific Northwest design! Order today!

This breathtaking work of art recounts one of the most well known legends of the Pacific Northwest—how Raven brought light to the world. It's a story that has been told over thousands of years and while regional variations do exist, this exceptional masterpiece captures the climactic moment when Raven is in possession of the light. The Chief of the Heavens keeps the daylight ball in a box. The Raven tricks him, takes the luminous ball, and flies skyward. The ball breaks apart, creating the moon, the stars, and the sun. No other metal captures the essence of light like gold, and this spectacular gold coin has been selectively coloured to create dramatic contrast between Raven's black plumage and the shining ball.

A must-have for dedicated art and coin collectors; storytellers; anyone with a passion for the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest.

Special features:
  • A STUNNING MASTERPIECE! Your coin recounts one of the most well known legends of the Pacific Northwest.
  • UNIQUE FORMLINE ART! An original work showcasing the unique formline art that has defined First Nations Peoples of the Pacific Northwest since ancient times, and is becoming increasingly collectible today.
  • BRILLIANTLY EXECUTED IN 14-KARAT GOLD WITH SELECTIVE COLOUR! For dramatic contrast, your coin uses 14-karat gold and selective colour with intricate engraving for added depth and dimension and dynamic finishes to maximize shine and contrast.
  • LOW MINTAGE: Only 2,000 coins will be made worldwide.

Design:

K'ómoks and Kwakwa ka'wakw artist Andy Everson has combined classic formline shapes and modern graphic elements to create a powerful portrait of Raven holding the light in its beak. Two side profiles come together to form a frontal view of Raven's face while its wings sweep down along the outer edges of the coin to cradle the shining ball of light, its luminescence radiating outward in all directions.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon case with a black beauty box.

too small ... size matters

18k gold is NOT a draw for me ... casual collector .. liked design .. did not like paying tax (taxed because not 24K gold) .. .disappointed in size... would MUCH rather have had the option to buy a one ounce silver that was electroplated in gold (quite frankly would not have been able to buy if it was 1oz 99.9999% gold) SO guys like me are buying the design more than the metal investment. NEVER-THE-LESS .. a very cool design and it will make a wonderful addition to the design of my sand sculpture totem pole I make at the beach this summer :-)

I truly appreciate the art of the Pacific coast and the mint does a great job of representing this art on a coin.

Too small and taxed

I had to return this product as I wasn't able to justify $800+ for such a small 14k coin.

OMG!!! It's AWESOME!

I was always looking for the 2008 or 2009 enamelled gold moon mask. When I did find it last year, the price was out of range for me. So when I saw this coin with the Native art on it, I had to have it. It's nice in the photo, but WOW it actually looks 3 dimensional in hand. And... it's beautiful.

Your stock says 0 at the post office for this coin in Alberta and was unable to order it in multiple Canada Posts. I was told they can't order it in if stock says 0. Although it says you do indeed have this in stock on your site.

what size is this coin? thank you

the little girl

Hi, Our "14-karat Gold Coin - Raven Brings the Light (2017)" weights 12 grams (nearly double the weight of the Canadian $1 "Loonie" coin which weighs 6.27 grams) and has a diameter of 27 millimetres (about the same as the Canadian $1 coin; 26.5 millimetres).

Chad

It seems obvious most purchasers specify that the coin is too small. A beautiful design like this needs a larger field. Q: Is it possible to see this design struck as a 2 oz silver coin? Perhaps with gold plating? It would make for a great limited edition like MC coin release IMHO.

Frankieknuckles

Thank you for the suggestion. Glad you like the design.

The August 2017 catalog shows, on page 25, the composition of this coin to be 58.33 Silver and 41.67 gold. This does not agree with the 14 K gold standard. Is the catalog description incorrect?

Lou

Hi Lou, You are correct. We apologize for the typo. The gold and silver percentages are reversed in the catalogue. We can confirm that the coin is actually 58.33% gold and 41.67% silver.
