Special Features:
  • Second in a gorgeous four-coin series that explores the predator and prey relationship of the Arctic fox and the Arctic hare; each animal is depicted in a traditional pose on one coin, then re-interpreted in an Inuit art style on another.
  • SMALLEST GOLD COIN! The coin's 11-millimetre diameter is the smallest sized gold coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.
  • SEEING IS BELIEVING! Your coin design boasts an astounding amount of minute detailing on such a small scale—a testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of the Royal Canadian Mint!
  • CRAFTED FROM 99.99% PURE GOLD.
  • Also available part of a four-coin subscription. Case features a magnificent wood laminate case complete with a built-in magnified display.
  • Your coin is GST/HST exempt!

Design:

The reverse design by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc features a traditional side-profile view of an Arctic hare (Lepus arcticus) in a natural setting during the winter season. Intricate engraving captures the hare's features with extraordinary precision on such a small scale, giving it a life-like quality that conveys the texture of its famously warm winter fur. The hare is aware of the predator's presence beyond the image field; keeping its large eyes trained on its foe, the hare moves its dark-tipped ears to detect the warning sounds of approaching danger.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a custom beauty box.

The gold coins are getting to be very small. One has to use a magnifying glass to see the coin details.

              Hi John,

Modern quarters have a diameter of 23.88 mm, or roughly twice as big as this coin. Another reference, dimes, have a diameter of 18.03 mm.

Why does it cost 79.99 when the value is only 25 cents

              A:

The face value of a precious metal coin is always set lower than the value of its metal content as protection against precious metal price fluctuations. Since these coins are legal tender, their face value is low enough so that the coin will not be redeemed at a value higher than what it cost to produce the coin.

is the gold coin 24k or 21k

            • Staff Reviewer

              A:

The Royal Canadian Mint makes some of the purest gold in the world. This coin is 99.99% pure gold which is technically 24kt. However, many 24 karat gold coins only contain 99.9% gold while ours contains 99.99% gold.

Why is this a 2017 coin? The set it comes in is a 2016 set. Is this n error?

Thanks for the question. This is not an error. We sometimes release future dated coins a few months early, as would be the case with this product.
