Encasement was Opened

The coin itself is worth five stars. However, the case it comes in is not branded; it is a simple black leatherette case, which is boring in contrast to all the Mint cases with Mint branding. For this, the purchase lacks a star. Furthermore, the plastic encasement was ajar upon my opening of the black case it displays in. As such, my rating of this purchase falls to three stars.

I happy to add this coin to the prior 2 that I have collected for the last two years. These coins show well with the high colour contrast to the coin's background.

Do the wings actually physically protrude from the coin, or do they give the illusion of protrusion?

Thomas

The wings physically protrude off the coin. They are a separate element that is affixed to the coin to elevate the three dimensional aspect of the bird.

How much did this coin cost the Cook Islands mint to make

Funny stuff

Thanks for your question but we do not have access to the manufacturing cost of other mints.

Write-up states 3 coins in this series, can only see 2, what is the 1st coin?

Renee

The previous coins were the Crimson Rosella (2014) and the Rainbow Lorikeet (2015). Images of both can be found by searching "parrot" on Mint.ca

Josh (Product Team)

Is this coin a product of the Canadian Mint?

Antonio

No - this coin is not produced by the Royal Canadian Mint; we are a reseller.

Why does the head of the flying macaw look like it was photoshopped

Greatis

It's possible you're seeing the seam between the three dimensional wing application and the portion of the parrot that is flat on the coin. The wings sit above the coin flat, so there is a slight raise between the two.

Josh (Product Team)

Do these coins still come in a protective plastic casing?

Denver

Yes, these coins are encapsulated for protection.

Legal currency in Canada?

superha

Hi superha, This product is produced by the Cook Islands so it is not legal currency in Canada.

Chad

I would like to see a revolving video of the coin to show the wings.

Sunshine

Hi Sunshine, This product is produced by the Cook Islands and they did not provide a video for this coin. We do not typically get additional photos or videos done for coins we're reselling.
