Designs:

Largely unchanged since 1959, the reverse design of Canada's classic 50-cent coin features the Canadian Coat of Arms. The history of our nation is powerfully conveyed through each of the richly symbolic elements—particularly within the shield, where a sprig of maple leaves represents Canadians of all origins while the upper portions honour the founding nations. On one side, a lion holds a lance with the Union Jack; on the other, a unicorn holds the royal flag of France. Saint Edward's crown above the crowned lion represents the monarch as Canada's Head of State, while beneath it all, a scroll reads Canada's unifying motto, "A MARI USQUE AD MARE" (From Sea to Sea).

On the reverse of the special commemorative issue, Ariana Cuvin of Toronto, Ontario, has transformed a maple leaf into an eye-catching mosaic representing Confederation. The four diamond shapes connected to the stem symbolize the original provinces that formed Confederation in 1867 (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia), while the remaining 9 shapes represent the provinces and territories that followed. Combined, they form the iconic symbol that represents unity, freedom and peace for people around the world—an ideal that is now 150 years proud!

50¢ – Canada 150:
Paired with the classic design featuring the Coat of Arms of Canada, the commemorative issue bears Canadian Heritage's official CANADA 150 logo by Ariana Cuvin of Toronto, Ont. Four diamond shapes connected to the stem symbolize the original provinces of Confederation, while the 9 shapes represent the provinces and territories that followed.

50¢ – The Coat of Arms of Canada:
Paired with the commemorative issue which bears the Canadian Heritage's official Canada 150 logo, the reverse design of Canada's classic 50-cent coin features the Canadian Coat of Arms. The history of our nation is powerfully conveyed through each of the richly symbolic elements.

Beautiful traditional 50-cent piece, I do not like the 150 reverse, it looks like a cheap token. the pack was considerably more expensive than the coins face value.

The special wrap is irrelevant to me, I am interested in the coins. I realise that the mint is there to make a profit but this price is ridiculous.

Purchased for my grandkids to have after their Papa is long gone. Have been collecting now for about 10 years and hopefully when I'm gone the coins I have collected will have grown in value for my six grandkids to share.

Thank you for your question. Due large volumes and the automated assembly process associated with this product, we cannot control how the coins are wrapped in these rolls. The order of the coins will vary. We are looking into potential future solutions for this type of product. If you are unsatisfied with your product, you may exchange it or return our product at the boutique when you visit in June.

I would like to place an order but notice that I the Q & A, several people state that their coin rolls came with only one side of the coin showing on both ends... Has this been Identified as an issue at your end, and rectified? I would like to make sure that my rolls show the Obverse as well as the Reverse of the coin.

Are the coins randomly allocated to the rolls - or should I expect an equal number of each design. If allocated randomly, I suppose that there is the (albeit extremely rare) possibility of receiving all of one design, presumably not the maple leaf design.

John

Hello and thank you for your question. You will receive an equal number of each design. One roll will contain only the Coat of Arms design and the other roll will contain only the Canada 150 logo design. I hope this helps clarify your question.

Erica (Product Team)

Is this a single design with the Coat of Arms on one side and the Canada 150 logo on the other side, or are there two designs, one with the Coat of Arms on one side and the image of the Monarch on the other side, second with Canada 150 logo on one side and the image of the Monarch on the other side?

Ed

Thank you for your question. There are 2 different designs: On one coin you will find the Coat of Arms of Canada on the reverse side and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side. On the other coin you will find the new Canada 150 official logo on the reverse side and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side.

Erica (Product Team)

I just received the 50-Cent Special Wrap Roll Pack, the 150th Anniversary Edition roll shows both the Obverse and the Reverse sides however the Classic roll shows both Obverse sides on each side of the roll. Am I able to exchange the Classic roll for one that has both the Obverse and Reverse sides showing?

So confused. Is the coat of arms and the stylized leaf on either side of both rolls or is the Queen on the reverse or what? It never describes properly what is on the face and what is on the reverse of each roll of coins.

Newbie the Nancy

I would like to get one of each of the $0.50s but not a whole role of each. Will this be available? I already have the 12 coin set and was surprised that the $0.50s were not included in the larger coin set. I also have the two special $3 coins (Spirit of Canada and Heart of Our Nation) as well as the 2017 Proof Pure Silver Dollar - 150th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation so am trying to get one of each of the special coins for Canada's150th anniversary.

Hello and thank you for your question. Unfortunately we cannot release product details before their launch, but at the moment there are no plans to release these coins individually. They are available in rolls and also in the Uncirculated Coin Set.

Is the bottom half of the Canada 150 50 cent shaded as it seems so in the photo?

Marty the newbie

Hello Marty, Please note that the images we use are mockups. The bottom of the Canada 150, 50-Cent is not shaded as it may appear in the photo. Thank you, Sabrina
