About the Design:

Designed by Canadian artist Lilyane Coulombe, your coin features a four-leaf clover with translucent green enamel that beautifully emphasizes its iconic shape.

Did you know...
  • Clovers can have more than three or four leaves, but some consider anything more than four to be unlucky.
  • It is thought that each leaf of a four-leaf clover symbolizes "faith," "hope," "love" and "luck."
  • Finding a four-leaf clover in a sea of near-identical clovers is in itself a stroke of luck when you consider that only one in 10,000 will have four leaves!
  • The clover is as "Irish" as Saint Patrick himself, right? Well…Ireland's patron saint originally hailed from Roman Britain; Irish pirates held him captive as a young man for six years before his release, but he later returned to the Emerald Isle where he served as a missionary and became a beloved, iconic figure!

Green and usually three-leafed, the clover that famously gives the Irish landscape its deep emerald colour is known the world over as the shamrock, and it is easily the most recognizable emblem of Ireland and its people! It is said that Saint Patrick, the fifth-century saint whose death is commemorated each year on March 17, famously used the clover's three leaves to illustrate the Christian principle of the Holy Trinity. But many are likely to associate this little green plant with the legendary four-leaf variety, which is a centuries-old symbol for luck that is widely considered to be an omen of good things to come. So if you happen upon a four-leaf clover, don't cast it aside—you never know what luck it may bring!

My mother is irish, and when she first came to Canada she and her best friend flipped a coin to determine which destination they would travel to while standing in the passport line in immigration in London England. Heads it was Canada, tails it was the USA. Now being in Canada for over 50+ years she can safely call Canada her home. But her roots lie back in Ireland, despite that faithful day that destined her away . So this coin will be a birtbday gift, that will be cherished as a rememberance of where she was born. A place that she will always call home in her heart. Regards Terrilynne ( her daughter)

I am purchasing this coin as a gift for my son. He and I are taking a father/son journey to Ireland in September and I would like him to have a lasting memory of our time together. I don't want him to put the coin in a drawer. I want him to carry it for good luck but don't want the face of the coin to scratch or get damaged in his pocket. Is there some kind of coating one can get to put on this coin that would not affect the overall collecter value of it?

Robbie

Hi Robbie - that sounds like a wonderful journey you have planned! No need to put a coating on the coin ... it comes in a durable plastic capsule in which you could carry to protect the coin. Best of luck on your travels!

The coin is in a round hard plastic case so it won't get scratched unless the case opens up

Paddy

It's a good thought but your in a catch 22 situation. To take it out of the plastic case to show it off would surely damage the coin, even if it was kept by itself in a pocket. The coin could be scratched by the cloth material which is why the coin is encapsulated. Even keeping the coin in it's plastic case is no guarantee of maintaining the collector value. Having it bang around with anything else would scratch the plastic and you would need to replace it if you wanted full value. My advise is to leave the coin at home and find some other four-leaf clover charm to take on your trip. It is supposed to be about the journey, is it not?
