Design:

Created by Canadian artist Derek Wicks, the reverse design artfully combines symbolic elements to express Canada's well wishes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on their 70th wedding anniversary. A sumptuous colour application over detailed engraving places a special emphasis on the Royal Cypher (EP) and St. Edward's Crown; both are flanked by decorative scrollwork that comes together in the shape of a tiara, with a prominent maple leaf to pay tribute to the Canadian Crown. The vibrant blue hue of the garter sash provides a colourful backdrop for the engraved double dates "1947" and "2017" that mark this Royal Platinum Anniversary. Fittingly, the geometric motif encircling the design is inspired by Her Majesty's platinum-set bracelet, which was gifted to her by His Royal Highness on their wedding day (November 20, 1947). This artistic rendering of the Royal jewel is further enhanced by lustre colour technology, which evokes the scintillating beauty of diamonds and adds a regal sparkle to our numismatic celebration. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

With its striking geometric design, the Wedding Gift Bracelet is an exquisite piece that has been worn by Her Majesty on multiple occasions since 1947. The platinum-set bracelet is centered around three brilliant-cut diamonds, which originated from a tiara belonging to His Royal Highness's mother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark. In fact, His Royal Highness was heavily involved in the bracelet's design, which undoubtedly adds to the sentimental value of this sparkling jewel.

  • The Royal Wedding took place on November 20, 1947 at Westminster Abbey, which was also the site of Her Majesty's coronation on June 2, 1953.
  • While 2,000 guests were in attendance, the wedding ceremony was broadcast to 200 million radio listeners worldwide.
  • The Royal Couple received over 2,500 wedding gifts, including a collection of Georgian silver from the Government of Canada.
  • Her Majesty wore the Wedding Gift Bracelet for the official Diamond Jubilee portrait in 2012. It was also loaned to Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, who wore it for her first state banquet in 2015.

Hi! I am wondering why the letters displayed on this coin are EP... What do they mean? The usual letters to use are ER, which stands for "Elizabeth Regina" (Latin for "Elizabeth the Queen"). Thanks!

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth, "EP" is the dual royal cypher of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
