About the Classic Coin Designs:

Polar Bear:

Canada's bimetallic two-dollar coin, launched in 1996, features a polar bear, one of the world's largest terrestrial carnivores which can weigh up to 650 kilograms. It lives near the cold seas and frozen ice of Canada's far-north.

Common Loon:

Launched in 1987, the reverse of the one-dollar coin represents a common loon swimming against the rugged backdrop of the Canadian Shield. The loon's haunting calls are one the quintessential sound of the Canadian wilderness in summer.

Canada's Coat of Arms:

The Canadian Coat of Arms, proclaimed in 1921 and modified in 1996, reminds Canadians of our diverse heritage. It features images from France (the fleur-de-lis), England (the three royal lions and rose), Scotland (a lion and thistle) and Ireland (the Irish harp and shamrock).

Caribou:

An enduring symbol of the Canadian north, the majestically-antlered caribou has remained a Canadian icon since first appearing on the twenty-five-cent piece in 1937.

Bluenose:

In 1921, Atlantic Canadians built one of the finest racing and fishing vessels in Canadian history, the Bluenose. Known for its speed, and almost unbeatable in a race, the ship first appeared on the ten-cent piece in 1937.

Beaver:

The beaver is Canada's national animal. Highly sought after for its rich fur in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was the mainstay of the colonial economy for centuries. Today, the beaver is revered as a symbol of hard work and perseverance.

HI! How many glow in the dark coins are in the rolls of toonies and quarters. thanks

Love Gold

Hello and thank you for your question! While there are no coloured 25-cent coins or coloured and glow in the dark $2 coins in the Classic Canadian Coin Set, dueto the nature of the large volumes with the automated assembly process for the My Canada, My Inspiration Special Wrap Roll Collection, our average distribution is approximately a 2:1 ratio of uncoloured to coloured. Please keep in mind that this is only an estimate.

Erica (Product Team)

I only received 5 colored two dollar and only 6 25 cent colored coins in my rolls. Far from their approximation promised in their add. Only a sorry and try again. Mot impressed.

You said the O Canada gift set has a special $1 featuring a maple leaf. The picture shown has the same $1 Loonie as the circulation set. Which is in the O Canada set? Which will be in circulation?

Glenda

The O Canada Set is a special gift set celebrating Canada so it has its own unique $1 coin specific to this set that will not be found in circulation. This 2017 Classic Canadian Coin set features our classic common loon $1 coin that will also not be found in circulation. The only $1 dated 2017 that you will be able to find in circulation this year is the My Canada, My Inspiration $1 coin designed by Canadian Wesley Klassen.

Ashley (Product Team)

Is this meant to replace the specimen set? I asked you about the set about a week ago and received no response.

Brian

No you can purchase the specimen set here: http://www.mint.ca/store/coins/6coin-specimen-set---snow-goose-2017-prod2880017?rcmiid=link|search|searchresults|6-Coin_Specimen_Set_Snow_Goose_2017&#.WKHY7GwzV9A

Ashley (Product Team)

will these coins be numismatic finish or regular like circulation?? tks

Frank

These coins have a uncirculated finish.

Ashley (Product Team)

In reference to the question asked by EB from Toronto, is it known what the total mintage of each of the Classic Coins will be? The 2017 Classic Canadian Coin Set gave the impression that there would only be a limited mintage of 75,000 of these coins; now we find that they are available in another set? This is kind of disappointing for myself as a new collector of coins!

4 Get

The 2017 Classic Canadian Coin set is a serialized item whereas the 2017 Canada 150 Circulation Collection is "while supplies last." Please note that it is not a current practice for the Mint to publicly disclose information on final mintages.

Ashley (Product Team)

NOT TO BE PLACED IN CIRCULATION! Yours is a limited opportunity to collect these classic designs issued in 2017, since the Royal Canadian Mint will not be placing them into circulationI My question is: What is the different in this dollar not in circulation and the 2017 Canada 150 circulation 12-coin collection. They look as the same coin

roots

Both of these dollars are the same however in the 2017 Classic Canadian Coin Set is serialized where as the 12-coin collection is While supplies last.

Ashley (Product Team)

These classic coins are also sold in a set with the new coins. Is the total mintage for the classic coins 75,000 or is that the mintage for the ones sold in this set? There is no mintage listed for the other set.

EB

The mintage for this particular set is 75,000 and is serialized on the packaging. The new set that was just launched is the only way to get both sets of coins in one place. This set is not serialized.

Ashley (Product Team)

What's the difference between the classic design and the 'my Canada, my inspiration design?

KathyL

The classic designs are the Beaver (5¢), Bluenose (10¢), Caribou (25¢), Common Loon ($1) and Polar Bear ($2). In 2017, the Royal Canadian Mint wants to celebrate everything it means to be Canadian. The My Canada, My Inspiration 2017 circulation coin collection captures all this and was designed by Canadians for Canadians exclusively for 2017.

Why is there tax on this item?

Silverfish

Hi Silverfish, This product is taxable because the coins are not at least 99.9% pure silver. Coins must be at least 99.9% pure silver to be tax exempt.

Chad

"since the Royal Canadian Mint will not be placing them into circulation" - does that mean that in 2017 these coins (the classic design) will not be produced for circulation and only the commemorative coins will come into circulation? Thank you! Viacheslav.

Viacheslav

Yes that is correct. In 2017 the classic designs will not be found in circulation the only way to get them is through a limited amount of numismatic products. The only coins dated 2017 that you will be able to find in your change are the My Canada, My Inspiration designs.
