The Mint is hiring a Director, Technical Operations and Quality Systems who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Winnipeg Manufacturing, the Director, Technical Operations & Quality Systems is responsible for enabling Operations Excellence by providing a safe, environmentally friendly, well-maintained and well-designed set of equipment, operating procedures and quality processes.
This role requires a servant leader who can collaborate with multiple peers and partners (internal and external) to drive safety, reliability, quality and continuous improvement. The incumbent is responsible for leading a team of approximately 70 people to deliver annually about 50 projects and manage a budget of $30 M including capital.
Your Responsibilities:
- Direct and optimize all aspects of the Engineering, Quality Systems and Technical Services groups for the Winnipeg plant.
- Ensure successful implementation of all Winnipeg based capital projects and all new processes and equipment.
- Provide both process and mechanical/technical support for Production with all processes and equipment housed within the Winnipeg plant. Laise with vendors and the Ottawa plant as appropriate to ensure success.
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced technologies and solutions to improve safety, capacity sustainability, quality, efficiency and identify new opportunities across the plant operations.
- Lead production engineering, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and operational capabilities.
- Ensure engineering specifications and technical drawings for processes, equipment, tooling, production and components are developed and optimized to support production.
- Ensure effective maintenance of infrastructure and equipment, implement predictive/preventative programs, and manage facilities planning and emergency preparedness. Asset Management and Work Management principles are to be developed and deployed.
- Lead budgeting ($30M) and capital investments ($10M to $20M) for Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Facilities to support growth and operational goals.
- Ensure ISO 9001:2015 compliance, drive corrective actions, and champion continuous improvement, training and cost reduction initiatives.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships and external partnerships to enhance performance, support manufacturing targets and deliver customer satisfaction.
- Inspire team performance through coaching and feedback, and lead workforce planning, recruitment and succession initiatives for the team.

Qualifications:

- This position requires an advanced level of English proficiency Proficiency in French is considered an asset
Education & Designation:
- University degree in related area
- Professional Engineering license is a strong asset
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of related business experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience
- Proven experience applying engineering principles, best practices, and emerging technologies to lead and drive innovation.
- Experience working in a unionized environment is considered a strong asset
- Experience with quality management (ISO certification, Kaizen)
