The Mint is hiring a Manager, Technical Services who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Services and Facilities, you’ll lead a skilled team of tradespeople and professionals who are responsible for efficiently maintaining Ottawa Manufacturing’s production equipment. You’ll also be responsible for fostering a culture of safety, inclusion, and professional growth.
Your Responsibilities:
- Champion health and safety by upholding safe work practices, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture where safety is a priority.
- Manage a group of employees to achieve established objectives efficiently and effectively, including performance and attendance management, recruitment, and administration of the collective agreement.
- Deliver on approved operating plans and objectives, adapting processes and procedures to mitigate risks and proactively address challenges that impact the business unit.
- Recommend solutions and evaluate program and service performance using analytical and evaluative thinking.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish shared goals and drive organizational success.
- Establish and champion equipment reliability, including standardization to enhance operational efficiency.
This position requires you to work from the Ottawa location five days per week.
Qualifications:
Languages Requirements:
Proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If no qualified candidate fully meets the required levels, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy. The linguistic profile for this position is:
Written Comprehension: Advanced (Level C)
Written Expression: Intermediate (Level B)
Oral Proficiency: Advanced (Level C)
Education & Designation:
- Technical diploma or University degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Professional Engineering designation, technical accreditation, or trades certification is considered an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of related business experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience.
- Proven experience applying maintenance principles, best practices, and emerging technologies to solve technical services issues.
- Significant experience in a unionized manufacturing environment with a focus on health and safety, continuous improvement and technical services.
Additional Qualifications:
- Proven ability to motivate, coach and develop employees to foster a safe and inclusive work environment.
- Excellent leadership, team building, negotiation and communication skills with the ability to influence and drive change.
- Demonstrated expertise in leading technical projects with strong project management skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Suite, and a working knowledge of artificial intelligence technologies.
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and machining concepts.
- Ability to respond effectively under pressure, including situations such as equipment failure, employee injury, or cost control challenges.
- Good knowledge of legislation related to the trades.
- Ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities in a changing environment.
