Reporting to the Senior Manager, Product Engineering, the Product Engineer will lead the development and commercialization of innovative coin and packaging solutions from concept through production and launch. You will serve as the technical lead for a portfolio of products, working closely with Product Marketing, Operations, Quality, Packaging, Supply Chain and other technical teams, as well as external partners to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned portfolio products (coin, embellishments, packaging, etc) are ready in time for launch.
  • Lead the product development activities and the production process in order to meet business case assumptions and key milestones. Develop corrective action plans for products deviating from baseline business case costing. Ensure corrective actions are documented and communicated for future reference.
  • Develop detailed product costing to meet both Product Marketing requirements and production profitability which feeds into the business case assumptions for production and marketing.
  • Provide technical insight to Product Marketing with a goal of designing products that will optimize both commercial and operational performance.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and external vendors to ensure effectiveness and on-time delivery of associated coin product and/or programs.
  • Proactively support all departments (Quality, Process engineering, Production, Packaging, etc.) and provide technical assistance relating to respective coin products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product lifecycle management, engineering workflows, and operational efficiency.
  • Support Engineering and manufacturing trials, problem-solving activities, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, digital technologies, AI tools, and data analytics to enhance quality, productivity, and customer value.
  • Provide updates to management on portfolio product performance on a regular basis.
  • Escalate product development or production issues that will significantly impact ability to deliver on-time and on-budget after actions have been taken to address situation with other department and colleagues.
  • Promote sustainable manufacturing practices that improve material utilization, reduce waste, and enhance environmental performance.
  • Support Environmental, Health & Safety requirements and maintain a customer-centric approach throughout the product lifecycle.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring on-site presence at our Ottawa location three to five days per week, depending on meeting requirements and other activities.

Qualifications:

Languages Requirements:

Proficiency in one official language (English/French) is essential.

Education & Designation:

  • University degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Chemical, Metallurgical, Materials, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or product engineering environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, production constraints, and product development requirements in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lead product development and production readiness activities for coin and related packaging products, ensuring alignment with launch timelines, quality expectations, costing assumptions, and commercial objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct technical analysis, identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, and recommend practical corrective actions using data, experimentation, and sound engineering judgment.
  • Ability to develop and assess product costing assumptions, understand key cost drivers, and recommend options that support profitability, production efficiency, and customer value.
  • Working knowledge of quality, safety, environmental, and sustainable manufacturing considerations as they relate to product design, production processes, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Product Marketing, Operations, Quality, Process Engineering, Production, Packaging, Sales, suppliers, and external vendors to resolve technical issues and support successful product launches.
  • Strong project coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, estimate effort and risk, monitor milestones, escalate issues appropriately, and deliver within established timelines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP/manufacturing systems such as D365, production/costing data, Engineering DataBase, Digital Technologies and Simulations, continuous improvement tools, or AI-enabled analytical tools is an asset.
