The Mint is hiring Casual Protective Services Officers who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Protective Services, the Protective Services Officer works in a teamwork type of operation and is responsible for protecting life, property and assets of the Mint; conduct preventive patrols; provide threat and risk analysis; control and monitor access of pedestrian and vehicular traffic flows within the Mint premises; enforce security policy and regulations; respond to emergency situations, including chemical, fire and medical emergencies in accordance to established and recognized emergency plans and procedures; prepare and submit reports; other duties as assigned.
This is a day/night shift rotation, operating on a 24-hour basis, 7 days per week.
Qualifications:
Mandatory Pre-Requisite Requirements :
- Candidates must successfully complete Royal Canadian Mint’s psychological testing
- Applicants must be able to successfully complete physically intensive NFPA 472 HAZMAT Technician, NFPA 1081 Industrial Fire Fighting, and NFPA 350/1670 Confined Space Rescue training courses. (including donning/wearing of SCBA)
- Applicants will be subject to Government of Canada (Level II – “Secret” –) background checks
- Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain clearance status screening assessment, criminal record and credit checks
- Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Firearms Restricted Possession & Acquisition License (RPAL) – applicants with existing R-PAL are an asset
- Applicant must be able to successfully complete Defensive Tactics training
Language Requirements:
- English is essential. Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset
Education & Designation:
- A College diploma in Security Management or a (minimum of one year) of related security or law enforcement experience
- A valid First Aid and CPR certificate
Previous Experience:
- Security experience, HAZMAT, use of Force or Defensive Tactics experience considered an asset

- Security and emergency procedures

- Threat and risk assessment
Abilities:
- Conduct security surveys, threat and risk assessments, and incident reports
- Develop and implement security and crime prevention programs
- Co-ordinate and conduct security and emergency awareness programs
Skills:
- Demonstrated skills in security and crime prevention programs, investigative techniques, First Aid & CPR
- Demonstrated skills in use of force and firearms safety and must be able to conduct oral and written security briefings and reports
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team
- Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office
- Ability to make sound judgement
