The Royal Canadian Mint is hiring a Protective Services Officer who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Protective Services, the Protective Services Officer is an armed role responsible for protecting life, property and assets of the Mint, conducting preventive patrols, providing threat and risk analysis and controlling and monitoring access of pedestrian and vehicular traffic flows within the Mint’s premises. The Protective Services Officer enforces security policies and regulations, and responds to emergencies, including HAZMAT response, fire and medical emergencies response in accordance with established and recognised emergency plans and procedures.

- One official language (English or French) is mandatory; bilingualism is considered an asset
Education and Experience:
- College Diploma in an area related to security or enforcement and/or, a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificate required
- Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing
- Use of Force or Defensive Tactics experience considered an asset
- Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) Restricted & Non-Restricted is considered a strong asset, but not required
Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge in security and emergency procedures
- Knowledge in accident prevention and safety, investigative techniques, crisis intervention, contingency planning and disaster planning
- Knowledge in threat and risk assessment and problem solving
- Knowledge in HAZMAT or industrial chemicals considered a strong asset
Abilities:
- Ability to conduct security surveys, threat and risk assessments, incident reports, develop and implement security and crime prevention programs and to co-ordinate the conduct of security and emergency awareness programs
- Ability to work independently and to work with others as a team
- High level of integrity
- Ability to motivate and maintain a positive work environment
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong willingness to learn
Skills:
- Demonstrated skills in security and crime prevention programs, investigative techniques, first aid, CPR & AED, use of force and firearms safety
- Demonstrated skills in oral and writing security briefings and reports
- Good communications and interpersonal skills during crisis intervention
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (Level II) for this position.
As part of your recruitment as a protective services officer, you must successfully complete a psychological assessment and background check facilitated by the Mint.
The mandatory protective services officer-training program includes 1-week firearms, 1-week defensive tactics, 1-week HAZMAT technician safety course followed by 5 weeks on the job training, paid). You must be available to work shifts (days, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays).
