The Mint is hiring a hiring a Supervisor, Engraving who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
This position reports to the Manager, Engraving and is responsible for supervising and directing a team of employees in the Mint production facility by exhibiting leadership and coaching qualities. The incumbent will be tasked with continuously improving the safety of the work environment and improving the quality of our products while balancing the need to achieve business objectives. The incumbent is responsible for leading a team of unionized employees.
Your Responsibilities:
- Manage employees under their responsibility by ensuring that production, quality and H&S expectations are met;
- Create, promote and maintain a positive work environment in their section;
- Develop the people under their responsibility through coaching, training, support and feedback;
- Lead by example (e.g. attendance, professionalism, rigorous follow up, H&S, positive attitude);
- Maintain a safe workplace by complying with all regulatory requirements, RCM policies, industry best practices, inspections, audits and through management/maintenance of the Lock Out Tag Out program;
- Liaise with the planning department to ensure that production plans are in line with business objectives;
- Monitors the physical assets of engraving (Master Tooling) and ensure we comply with Mint policies and foreign contracts;
- Motivate employees through interpersonal interactions on a regular basis, monitoring, fostering creativity, innovation and empowerment;
- Lead change and improvement initiatives, utilizing innovation and lean principles to improve efficiency and reduce production costs;
- Communicate objectives, goals and operational policies to employees;
- Continuously manage priorities, monitor status, and provide required reports to management;
- Collaborate with Quality department to ensure production is compliant with quality standards. Follow-up on necessary corrective actions to ensure improvements are successful;
- Regularly review key performance indicators and variances and take action as appropriate;
- Manage employee attendance and discipline as necessary.
You may be eligible for a hybrid working arrangement that would require you to work an average of 4 days a week at the Ottawa location. This could change based on operational requirements.

Qualifications:
Languages Requirements:
- An advanced level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If a bilingual candidate is not identified, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy.
Education & Designation:
- University degree or College Diploma in a related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered;
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing environment (preferably unionized workforce);
- Experience in modern manufacturing techniques (lean principles) in a leadership capacity;
Additional Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out is a must have;
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and standards (Labour Code – employment, workplace health & safety, environmental);
- Ability to lead, develop and motivate employees;
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with other functional groups, and external parties;
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and profitability;
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately;
- Ability to make decisions with sound judgment and execute on decisions with quantifiable results;
- Ability to mobilize and lead multidisciplinary teams to address equipment/process issues or drive continuous improvements initiatives;
- Strong time, priority and change management skills;
- Proficient in the entire Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel ability;
