The Royal Canadian Mint is hiring a Supervisor, Protective Services who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Protective Services, you will be responsible for the safety and security of Mint employees, contractors and visitors. In addition, you will ensure the protection of all Mint assets and facilities by enforcing company security policies and procedures. In this role, you will demonstrate professionalism and inspire trust in the integrity of the Protective Services function at the Mint by enabling business and being a trusted security advisor. You will be uniformed, armed and ready to support tactical response to any life-threatening situation.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to day security operations by scheduling, training and leading a team of protective service officers.
  • Implement deployment strategies taking a risk-based approach to enable Mint business.
  • Oversee the implementation of comprehensive security controls, policies, programs and procedures, including training, creating awareness and developing work instructions.
  • Coordinate responses to security incidents, such as theft, vandalism or medical emergencies, ensuring the safety of personnel and property.
  • Work with key business stakeholders such as Human Resources, Operations and Finance teams to streamline efficiencies within the Protective Services group.
  • Conduct on-going risk assessments to identify potential security risks and vulnerabilities, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Analyze and collect data security incidents, identify trends, disseminate information as required, and provide reports.
  • Maintain effective communication with employees, management, and external stakeholders regarding security issues and updates.

Qualifications:

Languages

  • An intermediate level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If a bilingual candidate is not identified, other language profiles may be considered.

 

Education

  • College Diploma and/or University Degree in Security Management, Criminology or Law Enforcement. We will also accepta relevant combination of education and work experience.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related business experience in security and emergency procedures.
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous leadership experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and managing union personnel is considered a strong asset.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with others in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Have strong technical abilities and computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Teams and Power Point.
  • Proven ability to motivate, coach and develop employees to foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Able to follow and enforce standard operating procedures (SOP’s) to make supervisory decisions, problem solve and think critically under pressure.
  • Incumbent must Successfully possess or be able to obtain and maintain a restricted firearms possession and acquisition license (PAL) and be willing to carry a firearm.
  • The ability to complete and pass a psychological assessment and successfully complete the RCM’s Firearms and Defensive Tactics courses.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing.

This role requires the ability to work onsite from the Ottawa location.
