In ancient times, a great flood happened that threatened the survival of the Squamish people. The people bandedtogether in canoes and tied their hands to En cheki(now Mount Garibaldi in British Columbia) so they wouldn’t drift away. A thunderbird caught a salmon and dropped it into the canoes, ensuring the people’s survival—a story that illustrates the importance of co-operation and the powerful, inter-connection between man and nature.
