Special features:
• Your coin features an exceptional depiction of silver maple leaves, which have been beautifully engraved with the artistry and craftsmanship for which the Royal Canadian Mint is internationally renowned.
• The specimen finish background showcases the design’s finer details, such asthe deeply cut, intricate veins that run through each leaf’s lobes and the slightly furled, serrated edges.
• An excellent addition to any Canadiana- or nature-themed collection and a thoughtful gift to mark memorable milestones and treasured achievements.
• Your coin is GST/HST exemptwith a limited worldwide mintage.
Did you know that…
• There are more than150 different species of maple trees in the world – of the 13 species found in North America, 10 are native to Canada. And at least one type ofmaple grows naturally in each of Canada’s10 provinces!
• The silver maple has many other names: white maple, soft maple, river maple... Its proper name is Acer saccharinum – Acer means “sharp” like a maple leaf’s edges, andidentifies it as a maple species; saccharinum refers to the silver maple’s sugary sap. It may not be as sweet as the sugar maple’s famous sap, but it is possible to make maple syrup from many species.
• Think all maple leaves turn red in the fall? Think again. Come autumn, the silver maple’s leaves changeto a pale yellow or rusty brown colour –rarely red.
• If you’re trying to spot a silver maple leaf, look for the leaf’s silvery underside and jagged teeth. Its five–to–seven lobes are also deeply cut and narrower than those of other popular maple species.
• Watch out, the silver maple can grow fairly quickly! A 10-year-old tree can measure over 7metres, and can eventually rise up to 35 metres tall. Its roots spread aggressively and could cause sidewalks to buckle if there’s not enough space!
Design:
Your coin was designed by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc, and depicts three silver maple (Acer saccharinum) leaves. With their edges slightly furled, these leaves are positioned in a way that evokes memories of a beautiful autumn day in Canada – it is easy to imagine these leaves gently falling from the majestic silver maple tree onto the ground below. In the foreground, the largest leaf lies on its side as it stretches across the image field; its longpetiole rests overtop the smaller, downward-facingleaf at far left. The large leaf’s bottomleft lobe overlaps the base of a third leaf behindit. Beautiful engraving adds depth to the image byshowcasing the silver maple’s deeply cut veins and serrate leaf margins.
Packaging:
Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with black beauty box.
