About
Fifth and final coin in the Colourful Songbirds of Canada series.
With its endearing chirp and stunning plumage, it's easy to see why the violet-green swallow (Tachycineta thalassina) is a favourite swallowspecies for many birdwatchers. Found in the open woodlands of western Canada, this songbird's iridescent feathers add an unexpected splash of colour to its serene surroundings and as such, are part of the beauty of Canada's natural landscape.
Special features:
• Fifth and final coin inthe Colourful Songbirds of Canada series, which captures the beauty of some of Canada's most distinctive bird species.
• This time, the Royal Canadian Mint celebrates the violet-green swallow, a slender songbird that is found in the open woodlands of western Canada.
• The selective colour recreates the vibrant, metallic-like hues of the violet-green swallow, much as it would be seen in the wild.
• A thoughtful gift for bird-watchers, art appreciators and anyone who admires the timeless beauty of the wildlife.
• The Colourful Songbirds of Canada series is also offered as a 5-coin subscription! The coins willbe launched monthly from March 2015 to July 2015.
About the design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Derek C. Wicks recreates the violet-green swallow's breathtaking green and blue-hued plumage and violet tail through the striking use of selective colour. Taking a break from its aerial hunting activities, this insectivore is perched on aswooping tree branch that is covered in western tree lichens. The clean contrast between the metallic-like upperparts and the bright white underparts further enhances the detailed pattern, bringing stunning depth and dimension to the overall composition.
Packaging:
Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a custom clamshell with a black beauty box.
