About
THE ORIGINAL SUPER HERO SQUAD!
For those who grew up reading DC Comics in the 1970s and early 1980s, this is how you remember them best! Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are the focus of this reverse gold-plated design, which channels the complex storytelling and artistry of Bronze Age comics. Engraved in dimensional detail, Superman leaps into action and rips through the vintage, laser-engraved panels that hint at each character's origin story.
A true must-have for comic collectors and fans alike!

Design:
Your coin's design delves into the pages of vintage comic books to pay homage to DC Comics Super Heroes in their earliest forms. Traditional engraving frames each of the laser-engraved comic book panels that appeared in early issues of DC Comics. Together, they form a stunning collage of fan-favourites, including: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin (Dick Grayson), The Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Doctor Fate, Hawkman,Catwoman, Black Canary, The Penguin, The Joker, even the Batmobile. The reverse gold plating adds a fitting gleam and luminosity to this ode to the Golden Age of Comic Books—save for the silvery image of Superman at the centre, where a laser halftone pattern adds a modern flair as the precision-engraved "Champion of the Oppressed" bursts through the page. The obverse features the effigyof Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Did you know…
Following Superman's debut, the soaring popularity of this "Champion of the Oppressed" opened the doors to an exciting new genre of Super Heroes—some with superhuman powers, many with secret identities, and all of them in costume.
In these early days, many would appear within the pages of All Star Comics: Hour-Man, The Spectre, The Atom, The Sandman, Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Hawkman , The Flash (Jay Garrick), and Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson). They are the original members of the Justice Society, the precursor to the Justice League and DC Comics' original top squad!
Combining their strengths to fight as one—and occasionally assisted by founding/"honorary" members Superman and Batman—the idea of a Super Hero team-up was a ground-breaking concept when it was first introduced in All Star Comics #3. Today's fans are also quick to point out that Wonder Woman made her first appearance in All Star Comics #8—the start of a long run for one of the most enduring and beloved pop culture icons of all time.
Flash Facts!
- There is no definite start or end date for the Golden Age, but many contend it began with the launch ofSuperman and ended when the genre's popularity waned during the post-war period.
- As a rule, a character would have to leave All Star Comics and become an "honorary" member of The Justice Society if he/she got their own title—it happened with The Flash after All Star Comics #6, and with Green Lantern too!
- Robin the Boy Wonder (Dick Grayson) was the first "kid" sidekick! Asone half of the Dynamic Duo, Robin joined Batman in battling nemeses such as The Joker and Catwoman, who was known as "The Cat" in her first appearances.
- Black Canary (Dinah Drake Lance) debuted in Flash Comics #86 as a tough crime fighter who relied on strength and cunning alone to takedown criminals—the character's now-famous sonic scream was introduced a few decades later.
- In the "Golden Age", The Flash is easily recognized by his costume, which includes a Hermes-like metal helmet complete with wings!
- The "Golden Age" Green Lantern looks a little different, too! Compared to subsequent Green Lantern characters, Alan Scott has blonde hair and his attire includes a red shirt and a purple collared cape with green lining.
- All Star Comics was re-imagined as All-Star Western. The series was later revived during the Bronze Age of Comic Books, when it included storylines that mixed Golden Age characters with the next generation of Super Heroes!
