A sugar maple leaf (Acer saccharum) provides a fitting and uniquely shaped canvasfor this celebration of the 30th anniversary of theSilver Maple Leaf (SML). A fixture on the SML’s reverse since 1988, the solitary maple leaf is re-created in the upper lobe of the maple leaf-shaped coin, where it is accompanied by the double commemorative dates “1988” and “2018”. Finely detailed engraving re-creates the leaf’s venation  for a more natural look to the coin, the leaf, as well as the twosmaller-sized versions that flank the legend “30 YEARS ANS”. The reverse includes the engraved face value “20 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin.
