About
Raspberry Moon brings a time of great change as the raspberry’s flowers turn to fruit! Order today!
Raspberry Moon brings a time of great change as the raspberry’s flowers turn to fruit, and teach us to be gentle and kind. In July, raspberries begin to ripen, and if we tear them from their branches, we will feel the sting of the thorns. Raspberries must be harvested with gentleness. In doing so, we honour the plant and ensure it continues to flourish.Raspberry Moon teaches us to raise our family the same way. Children thrive when treated with loving kindness. And life will encounter fewer barbs.

Design:
Algonquin artist Frank Polson has created a captivating image of a full moon filling the sky as it sits low on the horizon behind a tree at the height of its lush summertime growth. A cluster of four raspberries appears on the left, their succulent flesh portrayed in vibrant red. Black, sliver-like thorns protect the plant’s fresh new blooms that are illustrated with a series of concentric round shapes in black, green and red. These vibrantly coloured shapes, and those on the leaves, represent the spirit world, the universal life force that lies within and animates allthings.
Did you know…
- The Indigenous people of North America were likely the first to cultivate raspberries. Berries were eaten straight from the plant; mashed and mixed into beverages; or added to soups and meat. They were also dried and pressed into cakes as an important source of vitamins during the winter.
- The entire raspberry plant is an important medicine among North America’s Indigenous peoplefor treating coughs, toothaches, measles, dysenteryand digestive problems, and maintaining women’s reproductive health. Root bark is an effective eyewash for cataracts; the leaves heal kidneys; and a decoction of root tips purifies the blood and regulates blood pressure.
- Indigenous cultures show great respect to all plants for offering themselves as food, clothing, shelter and medicine. Before harvesting any plants, the person will explain why they are there, and will give thanks with an offering of tobacco. Without such acknowledgement, the plants will hide, and will not allow themselves to be picked.
