Design:
Designed by Steve Hepburn, your coin highlights one of Canada’s many rodeos. Under bright blue skies, a female competitor and her horse race against theclock during an outdoor barrel racing event. The image is framed by stylized icons that represent popular outdoor activities and sights in Canada: (clockwise from top) Niagara Falls; a Christmas tree; a rodeo; wine tasting; dogsledding; folk music; cherry blossoms; maple syrup tasting; whale watching; tulips; coastal drive; and the aurora borealis. The obverse features the year “2019” and face value “3 DOLLARS”, and the framed effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Did you know…
- “Rodeo” comes from the Spanish verb rodear (to round up or surround). While they’re often associated with the “Wild West” spirit of western North America, rodeos take place all across Canada.
- From roping to riding, a rodeo includes many competitive events — including barrel racing, asseen on this coin. The race against the clock starts when the horse and rider enter the arena; running at full speed, they must negotiate tight turns and circle three barrels in a cloverleaf pattern on theirway to posting the top course completion time. Touching a barrel is permitted, but a fallen one earns the rider a five-second penalty.
Packaging:
Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a blackbeauty box.
