Start/Grow your collection with this set of 2023 collector’s edition non-circulation coins, including a special-themed 50-cent piece.
What do a loon and a hockey skate have in common? How about a polar bear and a canoe? They’re all Canadian icons, and they’re some of the popular images of Canada that appear on the 50-cent piece included in this set! A proud expression of Canadian identity and pride, the set-exclusive 50-cent coin features an eye-catching mosaic and a pop of patriotic (red) and (white) colour. Though each icon is “wildly” different from the next, they all serve as representatives of Canada and the Canadian experience, represented by the different elements that form the most famous Canadian emblem of all: the maple leaf.
An affordable set for collectors of all age, and a fun expression of Canadian identity and pride in 2023.
Special features
- Canada’s 2023 collector’s edition non-circulation coins. Exceptionally for 2023, this set is a rare opportunity to see the classic Canadian coin designs you know and love, stamped with this year’s date (“2023”) in a non-circulation version. As we focus our attention on commemorating the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1952-2022), the Mint will not be issuing any 2023-dated Canadian circulation coins featuring both the traditional reverse designs and an obverse featuring Queen Elizabeth II. Instead, we struck a limited collector’s edition for each of the six Canadian coin denominations ($2, $1, 50¢ (special edition), 25¢, 10¢, 5¢), and you get one of each in this special set.
- Classically Canadian. Just for this set, the 50-cent coin’s classic coat of arms design has been replaced by a mosaic of Canadian icons that serves as a proud expression of Canadian identity in 2023. This special 50-cent coin is a set exclusive—it is not available separately.
- Fun starter set. This fun and affordable set makes it easy to start or expand your coin collection! The six 2023-dated coins are also a unique way to mark a special moment this year, whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, graduation, or even a first visit to Canada.
- Limited supply. Only 30,000 sets are available worldwide.
Red and white accent
The 50-cent coin’s unique reverse also features a selective application of red and white colour to the stylized icons that, together, form the unmistakable shape of Canada’s beloved maple leaf.
Put your canadian pride on display
Your six coins come sealed and packaged in a presentation-ready folder with a pop-out easel feature on the back, so you can easily display your 2023 coins with pride.

About the 50-cent Coin Design
The special-themed reverse design by artist Alisha Giroux features a mosaic of stylized Canadian icons arranged in a pattern that echoes the national flag of Canada (clockwise from top): a polar bear, a hockey skate, a canoe with oars, a beaver, a toque, a moose, a curling stone and a snowy owl. At the centre of the design, a selective application of red colour highlights the moose’s antlers, a Canada goose, a mitten, a loon and the log held by the beaver; together, these red and white coloured icons form the shape of another Canadian symbol, the maple leaf. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.
