Each Peace Dollar is a powerful representation of Canada’s ongoing dedication to universal human rights and world peace, as is embodied in the allegorical figure that first appeared on the Peace and Liberty medal in 2019 and has since become a fixture on Canada’s annual Peace Dollar – and Lady Peace (“PAX”) is again featured on this 2024 edition. Plated with yellow gold, the Ultra High Relief (UHR) portrait radiates hope for a peaceful and prosperous future, while behind it, a new field pattern is inspired by Lady Peace’s crown of maple leaves and olive branches that, together, represent the core Canadian value of peace.

For the first time, the UHR portrait on the reverse of your Peace Dollar has been plated. This is no small feat, given the complexities and height of the sculpt, but our engineers succeeded in establishing a process for a reliably beautiful execution

Your Peace Dollar’s reverse features selective yellow gold plating and a new maple leaf with ribbon pattern behind the allegorical image of peace designed by retired RCM Senior Engraver Susan Taylor. Struck in Ultra High Relief (UHR), Lady Peace is depicted in profile with her hair crowned in a wreath of olive branches and maple leaves, which inspired the field pattern. She is flanked by her name “PAX” (the Latin word for “Peace”) and the year “2024”, while Canada’s national motto, “A MARI USQUE AD MARE” (“From sea to sea”) appears overhead. The obverse features selective yellow gold plating and the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.
