The Coat of Arms of Newfoundland and Labrador was originally granted to Sir David Kirke (Newfoundland's governor and head of a private trading company) in 1638. Lost for almost three centuries, these Arms were reintroduced in the1920s.

The motto Quaerite prime regnum means,ye first the Kingdom of God.
