June 6, 1944 – forever known as D-Day – your coin transports you back in time with a unique first-person perspective that immerses you in the midst of the action. Canadian infantry soldiers are seen in full battle gear as they disembark from a Landing Craft Assault (LCA) vehicle and make their way to what’s become known as Juno Beach. In the foreground, one soldier looks on while another at left looks back at the viewer, who is about to follow the others into the low Atlantic tide. The precariously angled horizon in the background recreates the rough sea conditions, as the transport vehicle and its occupants are tossed about by tall waves just off the shores of Normandy.

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell box with a black beauty box.

A Beautiful Coin

The remarkable detail was the reason I bought the coin for my own personal collection. I was also attached to the royal being King George the VI. Quite unusual since Queen Elizabeth is on all of our coins. The coin also commemorates D Day and honours those who died. I lost an uncle in the push into Germany.

Beautiful coin showing DDay

The coin is a wonderful portrait showing what Canadian soldiers went through on DDay back on June 6, 1944 and has everything a collector is looking for.

Exceptionally well-done "reproduction":

Great reproduction of that very famous photo of the Landing showing the few remaining structures on the beach; the attempt by the Nazis to block the on-shore progress by the Allies, using various barriers, and the landing craft(s)themselves. One will remember that famous photo, taken at Omaha Beach, by the U.S. A.C.E. showing the disembarking of U.S. troops, while being slaughtered by the machine-gun nests of the Nazis who were safely perched high above the cliffs waiting for the U.S. troops to climb up and attempt to overrun the forces of the Third Reich. That scene, taken closer to the shoreline, looking "back" at the disembarkment, was used in many war-time movies including Saving Private Ryan, I believe. This coin's depiction of the landing at Juno Beach, is incredibly reminiscent of that famous photo taken at Omaha Beach. It has become the single most iconic photo of the greatest invasion ever staged (by Allied Forces from dozens of countries) using every means possible to cross the English Channel. This is a "must-have" piece because "D-Day" led to the ultimate defeat of the horrors of the Hitler Regime. I would have liked to have seen a weightier piece i.e 1 oz. and more use of the horizon above the cliffs, perhaps showing explosions as Allied bombers attempted to "soften-up" those perches for the approaching Allied soldiers who survived the initial onslaught, on the beaches.

The detail on this coin is phenomenal! The engraving is so good, you can even read the patch on the soldier's sleeve. The expression on the face of the solder to the left took my breath away. As I held this coin in my hand and as I remembered the story of D-Day, I actually cried. It was the face of someone who knew he was about to die. I purchased this coin as a gift for a World War II vetran.

Unique WW2 Commemorative Coin

This coin is a unique commemorative of the D-Day landings and illustrate Canadian troops disembarking at the beach head. The image of King George VI on the obverse enhanced the unique value of the coin by taking the vintage back to the 1940s. Overall I thought this is a special coin that was worth adding to my collection!
