2019 Pure Silver Coin - EQUALITY

2019 Pure Silver Coin - EQUALITY

$49.95 CAD
Mintage: 15,000
Canada and US only

Hold on to love with a full-colour, pure silver version of our 2019 commemorative dollar that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada.

Over the last five decades, Canada has made significant strides in becoming a more inclusive society, guided by a belief in diversity, equality for all and the right to live free from discrimination, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics.

On April 23rd, 2019, commemorate 50 years since Canada took the first step towards decriminalizing homosexuality. Order today.

Special Features:
  • A FULL-COLOUR VERSION OF THE 2019 CIRCULATION DOLLAR: This ½ oz. 99.99% pure silver coin is your only opportunity to own a full-colour version of the community-themed $1 coin. The bold colours are just as the artist envisioned, but they also add layers of meaning to the engraved image.
  • A MATTE PROOF FINISH: Your coin's finish gives it a strong frosted appearance that emphasizes the crisp impression on its reverse.
  • A JOE AVERAGE ORIGINAL: The thought-provoking design by Vancouver-based artist Joe Average invites viewers to interpret the art in their own way, to reflect their story and experiences.
  • LIMITED MINTAGE WORLDWIDE: Limited to 15,000 coins worldwide.
  • DOUBLE DATES: The double dates "1969" and "2019" set the tone for a continuing conversation about fundamental freedoms in Canada. It highlights how far we, as a country, have come in terms of promoting and supporting equal rights, and how we must still strive to eliminate discrimination and bias.

The reverse image by Canadian artist Joe Average is a celebration of community, equality and inclusion. The intertwined stylization invites a personal interpretation of the design, viewed through the lens of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics. The facial traits reflect gender fluidity and the spectrum of gender expression; they may belong to two individuals, or they may represent different aspects of one's identity.

A ray of light reflects in each eye and brings the colour image to life, bolstered by the vibrant colours of the PRIDE flag. The English word "EQUALITY" and the French word "ÉGALITÉ" are included on two curved bands. The frame includes the word "CANADA", the double dates "1969" and "2019" to mark the 50 years since the process of decriminalizing homosexuality in Canada began, and the face value, "10 DOLLARS". The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Not Crazy About the Design - But Good To Support Acceptance

I dislike the picture, but the recognition of acceptance for the LGBTQ community is so important to Canadian culture, that I had to buy the coin. I really wish a different design had been used, or a poll taken to allow people to vote on.

Brilliant and unique design. I love it.

Brilliant and unique design. I love it. The colors pop out and makes it look very attractive - more so in hand than in the photo on this website !

No wonder it is bestseller

The popularity of this coin speaks for itself. Hopefully this coin will spur more interest in coin collection among people keen on civil right and social justice.

Simplistic, genuine, classic

Genuine and classic, yet simple without artificial self-indulgent fanfare. The image on the obverse of the coin feels innocent, low-key, and very personable. A wonderful and humble work, speaking to the un-tinted but natural aspect of diversity and humanity. Really impressive.

Terrible coin

Terrible aesthetics - totally lacking the class that many previous Mint coins displayed. Looks like it came out of an 8th grade art class.

Worthy. A good reminding

Family bought this to keep. I thought this coin was smart and inspiring. It serves as a good reminding that I should never take what's been achieved for granted. The design is appealing. Its message carries courage, dignity, worthiness, and open-mindednes in large. Still a long way to go, but this step is monumental.

Thumbs up. Artistic with a modern twist

I had been wondering what the blue cap the character wears means but maybe the artist himself has the best answer. It's an interesting and eye-catching image. The coin looks solid and well-made. Right size as well. I didn't take it out of the capsule but I can see the details and was amazed how true it was to the picture online. Nice coin. Thumbs up!!

Just a terrible looking coin

Gaudy is the only way to describe this monstrosity. Surely the mint can do better than this.
