All together: Canada's coin superstars are together in this set AND on a special 50-cent coin! Order today!

They are Canada's coin superstars! The beaver, Bluenose, caribou, loon and polar bear — these are the images we're used to seeing on our everyday coins. Sometimes, we'll issue a special version of a coin that features a different image. Maybe it's for a special event; maybe it's to learn or talk about something new. But Canada's coin “friends” never stay away for long — we'd miss them too much. Our circulation superstars are together in this set that gives you one of every classic denomination for 2019: 5-cents, 10-cents, 25-cents, one-dollar and two-dollar. But there's one more piece…

For the rare 50-cent coin, we gathered our old friends and sent them on a little adventure to discover Canada. The colour image shows them looking in every direction beneath a blue sky, while the maple leaf stands tall in the background. When you view the coin in the dark, that same sky is lit up by the Northern Lights. And the proud maple leaf from the daytime scene? It's still there!

Fun for collectors of all ages, all our circulation stars on one coin! Order today!

Special features:
  • EXCLUSIVE TO THE SET! Canada's classic circulation coins for 2019 are all featured here, along with a special edition 50-cent coin that re-imagines these familiar images in a fun new way! This 50-cent coin is a set exclusive — it is only available as part of this circulation collection.
  • THREE TECHNOLOGIES, ONE COIN! The engraved 50-cent coin features bright colours and a creative art style that speaks to the imagination, no matter the age. It's a sight to see in daylight, but hold the coin under a light for up to 60 seconds and step into darkness to view a night scene.
  • SPECIAL PACKAGING! These coins are packaged together in a special maple leaf-themed presentation card that's ready for display. Simply fold the support flaps on the back, and the card becomes an easel for displaying your very own pieces of Canadian coin art.
  • A DIFFERENT TAKE! The 50-cent design is an extraordinary group portrait of five Canadian circulation “superstars” — the icons that appear on our everyday coins. It is an opportunity to have them together on a single coin that is a warm-hearted celebration of Canada.
  • ONE OF EVERY DENOMINATION! The perfect starter set for new collectors of all ages—especially the young and young-at-heart! This set features one of every classic Canadian circulation coin for 2019: $2, $1, 25-cent, 10-cent and 5-cent coins.
  • NONE OF THESE COINS HAVE BEEN CIRCULATED! They were intended for circulation; instead, these five denominations were taken from the press at our Winnipeg facility and placed in this set.

Design:

On the 50-cent coin, the reverse design by Darren Booth features Canada's classic circulation designs re-imagined in a modern illustration style. The 25-cent's caribou joins the two-dollar coin's polar bear, which stands at the edge of an ice floe. The dollar's loon flies across the blue sky, while the ten-cent's Bluenose sails on the sea. The five-cent beaver looks up at the big proud red maple leaf in awe. When the glow-in-the-dark feature is activated, the characters all become silhouettes against the night sky, where the maple leaf is faintly visible against the glowing aurora borealis. The reverse includes the engraved word “CANADA” and the date “2019”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Did you know…
  • 1937: That's the year the beaver, caribou and Bluenose first appeared on Canada's coins. Fifty years later (1987), the loon landed on a new dollar coin. And in 1996, Churchill the polar bear made his big debut on the “toonie.”
  • Circulation coins are the ones we use for our everyday purchases. Every single Canadian circulation coin comes from our high-tech facility in Winnipeg, where 50-ton presses strike more than one billion coins each year!
  • The same artist is behind the beaver and caribou designs. His name? Emanuel Hahn. Today, we work with Canadian artists of all ages, like Joelle Wong, who was eight years old when she designed the 2017 My Canada, My Inspiration 25-cent coin. There's always a place for Canadian art on our coins — keep drawing and creating, Canada!

The coin set is good but the packaging and the coloured coin are fantastic. This would be a great starter coin set for a child you are trying to take an interest in coin collecting.

Annual Christmas Gifts for my Grandchildren. When they get them they call them "Grandpa's Treasures', and put them away for safekeeping. Then they open the gifts that they "really" wanted. LOL.

Does this set have the $ 2 coin on its reverse the 'classic' design (as shown in the images)? I.e., without the holograms? Thanks!

Frans

Hello Frans and thank you for asking. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
