All four coins share the same inspiring reverse design by Canadian artist Caren Heine. In the foreground, a slightly stylized sugar maple (Acer saccharum) leaf anchors the design and is positioned centrally, much like the 11-pointed maple leaf at the centre of Canada's national flag. Detailed engraving re-creates the deeply cut veins that run through each of the leaf's five lobes, as they do in the two larger maple leaves that flank it on both sides. The reverse proof finish heightens the brilliance of this splayed arrangement of traditionally engraved leaves; but a closer look at the field on both the reverse and obverse reveals a uniquely patterned backdrop consisting of laser-engraved maple leaves, which add contemporary flair to this classic design. The word "CANADA" and the year "2018" are struck incuse on each coin's reverse, along with the purity and weight. Each obverse includes the coin's face value and the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth by Susanna Blunt.

Highest Quality Pure Gold that will add value to collection

With highest purity and low mintage, value can only increase over time. Great value opportunity.

Expensive but worth it

Exquisite set, beautifully designed/struck and rare. I've collected all of the Gold Maple Leaf proof sets and consider this to be one of the most desirable coins and sets issued by any mint, anywhere. One comment, which I've expressed to the RCM several times: the US Mint includes a 0.50 ounce coin in its Proof Gold American Eagle set, as does the Perth Mint in its Proof Gold set. The RCM did originally include these in 1989, 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2009, but beginning in 2010 (and with the rising price of gold) it dropped the 0.50 ounce in favor of a much small (minuscule) coin. This doesn't reflect well on the RCM and the decision should be reverse, especially for the upcoming 40th Anniversary release of the GML.

Highly recommended Gold Coins

These coins are very well designed. I like the quality gold with 5x9 purity. They now become one of my collections.

5X9 Gold coin nut

Too expensive if you take what a oz sales for its too much

If you break down the cost per oz it is quite expensive

very attractive and classic design

very nice set but incomplete without the half ounce coin

Majestic Maple

Amazing design with multiple levels of polish to bring out the colour of the gold. Laser etching for fine detail. And Who couldn't resist something so pure? 99.999% unbelievable!!!

Fantastic Coin

The coin came in great condition! It was even better than the view of it on the website.

I would buy this set again...

This really is a unique set of four gold coins which have been exquisitely minted by the Royal Canadian Mint. The overall presentation is somewhat different, but certainly within the theme of the Canadian Maple Leaf.

Why no 1/2 oz. coin in the new gold fractional set?

Collector in USA

Hello, thanks for inquiring about the set. Historically, we have not put the 1/2 oz coin in this set.

Why is the larger maple leave missing its middle section?

Thank you for your interest in this product. The larger leaf's centre isn't actually missing, there is another leaf on top of it.

Libby (Product Team)

Actually, no, above the smaller leaf in front, there should still be a tall central lobe on the maple leaf in the back, no? I've searched sugar maple (acer sacharum) online, and looked at photos of several other varieties of maple as well, particularly the ones that grow here ( No photos I've found show maple leaves with side lobes but no central one. What variety was used for leaf in the back, since it appears not to be sugar maple?

The background is actually 2 leaves, not one :) They are turned 45 degrees left and right.
