The buildings that stand on Parliament Hill are among the most important examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the world. These historic buildings echo the architectural style of medieval Europe, but those who look beyond the pointed archways, buttresses and extensive stonework will discover an enigmatic world of uniquely Canadian images carved into wood and stone—maple leaves, Canadian fauna and flora, satirical scenes, First Nations mythology, snarling gargoyles, dinosaurs and countless fantastical characters known as grotesques.

This unprecedented series features three of the most captivating grotesques to pique the interest of art lovers, architects, historians, and collectors alike. Each coin was designed by Phillip White, a Canadian artist who has been Canada’s official Dominion Sculptor since 2006 and who has an intimate knowledge of the thousands of figures that adorn Parliament Hill. Every detail has been painstakingly reproduced, and every coin has been struck numerous times to achieve the ultra-high relief necessary to capture the depth, dimension and drama of the original sculpture—a unique art form rarely seen beyond the halls and walls of Parliament Hill!

First coin design, the Grotesque Wild Green Man:
Engraved in ultra-high relief, your coin was inspired by pieces from the East Block of Parliament, reinterpreted by Dominion Sculptor Phillip White. This fierce and wild-eyed figure has ancient links to pre-Christian mythology and is believed to symbolize growth and rebirth, the cycles of life. He is often depicted with dense foliage, and here, his hair, brows, moustache and beard are made of leaves—a wildly mysterious grotesque exquisitely crafted in ultra-high relief.

Am I the only one who SEES the elements of FIRE (flames), AIR (wind), and EARTH (foliage)in these facial depictions? I am thrilled to have ordered this collection. I hope RCM follows up with additional images in other sets.

Deep relief coin very low mintage

I love the history behind the coin. The deep relief is amazing as well you see the great detail in the coin and know they tried to get the essence of what was to be created from the original The very low mintage and a rare $25 coin as well A great series to be had

Unique high relief and 3D popping

What drew me to this coin was the high relief and unique design. The history of the grotesque green man is really interesting too. The face really pops out of the coin when seen in hand. Love that this coin is low mintage and can't wait to see what the next two coins in the set look like.

International Design

When I saw it at the boutique, I had to have it. It is not only a unique design, it is mesmerizing to look at. Unlike any other. A coin fit for the international market.

Nice High Relief Coin

Although this series has a low mintage, the price is a bit expensive. I think the mint should limit the amount of coins it's producing as they are flooding the market and at some point, even seasoned collectors will be turned off.

scary looking coin to have around first off needs a hair and way too much money

Bath ontario Canada

Very nice coin

Goes well with moon masks

Fine Silver Ultra-High Relief 3-Coin Subscription – Sculptural Art of Parliament – Mintage: 4000 (2016)

Why this case does not look like the wild life case, the wild life case looks much better than this high relief box, I will definitely go for the wild life, the case looks official, please change the high relief box, because I would love to buy these coins someday.

I'm not positive which wildlife case you are referring to, as we create many wildlife and nature coins. The case for this set is solid wood and is the same as has been used for ultra high relief collections in the past. We feel it compliments the heritage and style of these coins, and will keep them well protected for years to come. Once a product has been issued it is not possible to change it's packaging.

Where do I display/keep the COA? Do I pry the layer with the coins up and place the coa there?

Yes, you can lift the coin tray and place the certificate underneath.

When is coin 2 coming out?

Thank you for your question. The next coin will be announced in April, 2016, followed by the third coin in July, 2016.
