Designed by Pandora Young, your coin presents a cross-cultural celebration inspired by the ancient tradition of Indian mehndi. A symmetrical arrangement of highly ornate shapes and symbols form a 12-point radial pattern that reflects the calendar year. A prominent henna motif — the lotus — is among the finely detailed elements that emanate from the centre, where a colourful Swarovski® crystal represents the May birthstone, emerald. A selective application of colour complements the stone, while the playful contrast between soft and vivid tones highlights the layered complexity of the engraved artistry. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Did you know…
  • “Emerald” is from the Greek word smaragdus, which means “green.”
  • Emerald was mined in Ancient Egypt; today, it is mined in Colombia, Brazil, Afghanistan and Zambia.
  • It is the traditional and modern gift for those celebrating a 55th wedding anniversary.

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.

This is an excellent gift idea!

I bought two of these to give to family members who were born in May. The coin in addition to the necklace price that hold the coin is quite an attractive piece. I know my family members will enjoy the gift very much!

I would buy this product again

These May birthstone coins were purchased as keepsakes. I've always liked coins but have purchased a new one before. I'm very impressed by the quality and pleased that it was in a coin case.

Today I received my May coin in the mail and the Bezel to wear it as a necklace. Unfortunately it did not come with directions on how to put the coin into the necklace. Do I take the coin out of the plastic case (could not figure out how to open it as well). Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

Hello and thank you for asking. The capsule needs to be opened which can be a bit tricky. To open a capsule you need to find if the ridge between the top and bottom is in the middle or bottom of one of the pieces. You can pry it open with either a finger nail or a tiny screwdriver such as one you would use to repair eyeglasses. You have to twist the two parts of the capsule to separate them. It is difficult to open a capsule and they are made this way to protect your coin. As for the bezel, you should find a tiny screw at the top that you would take out then place the coin in and replace the screw and make it tight. If you are having difficulties, you can take it to a jeweler as they are quite used to these, this is of course, only a suggestion.

Would I be able to buy a November birthday coin now, or is it not available until November?
