Convey a blessing of prosperity with this beautiful coin! A perfect gift!

Filled with beautiful, thought-provoking symbolism, blessings have long been an important part of traditional Chinese culture around the world and in Chinese-Canadian communities. Along with good luck and longevity, ancient Chinese beliefs held that prosperity was one of life’s greatest blessings and a cornerstone for the ideal life.

A blessing for prosperity—such as the one conferred by this coin on its owner—bestows upon the recipient a sincere wish for their success and fortune, and a greater hope for continued happiness.

In Chinese tradition and in Feng Shui, the ox is an agriculture-based emblem that symbolises a bountiful harvest in the year ahead and an accumulation of wealth. Here, it is depicted in the centre of the coin’s reverse image with a belt of five coins, along with the Chinese symbol for “prosperity” engraved in the upper left corner—all elements that are symbolic within this blessing of prosperity for the coming year, and many more to come.

About the Design:
The design by Canadian artist Simon Ng confers upon the owner a blessing for prosperity. In the centre of the image stands one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac: the ox. Long used in agriculture and for heavy tasks, this animal’s patience and hard work are believed to result in success; it is also a spring emblem that represents a bountiful harvest for the year ahead, with an accumulation of wealth. Here, this auspicious symbol is an image of strength as it steadily moves along the landscape; its belt of five coins is particularly fitting given that coins represent money (and thus, prosperity), while the number “5” is associated with blessings for a balanced life. To the left of the ox, the Chinese symbol conveys the blessing for a “prosperous” year ahead.

Did you know…
•  Images of Chinese coins, with their square centre hole (as depicted on this coin’s reverse), represent fortune and prosperity; coins are carried or placed in specific areas in hopes of attracting wealth, prosperity and abundance.
•  The number “5,” which is represented by the five coins in the reverse image, is often associated with the five blessings in life (longevity, wealth, health, love of virtue and a peaceful death), and with the five elements: water, fire, wood, metal and earth.
•  The ox is considered to bring fortune to business dealings, investments, careers or any other financial situation.
•  The ox is also one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, representing those who were born in 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997 and 2009.

Design well thought

Prosperity & Bull in Chinese means Wealth from Stock Markets

Many people do not understand the designer's original idea; however, the two Chinese words and the bull (or ox; same in Chinese) implying the prosperity in a country and its stock market and other financial markets.

Terrific piece !!!

Traditional culture in Modern design. Very active !

Very poor design, concept and presentation...very ugly!

- Never expect RCM will produce such a coin with such terrible design (F) - This is not RCM standard (should be A+) - I showed this coin to my friends and nobody could identify the "creature" on the coin...a goat? ox?...a horse?...a combination of the three?... - The clouds look like "feces" (sorry, I have to tell the truth). - Couldn't figure out what the them is related to. - The creature is pulling some Chinese coins. Is this supposed to be a "chain"? If so, what's this creature pulling...looks like it's missing???? - Very disappointed

I collect this series but I think this is the most disappointing coin by far. It's very difficult to make out the design and details of this coin -- I wouldn't know what it is if I didn't have the benefit of the larger image from The Mint's website. I showed the coin to my wife and a couple of friends and they had the same opinion. I can make out the image on many of The Mint's 1/25 ounce coins better than this one. It's an expensive coin at almost $1000 so I expect more. I'm only keeping it because I have all the other coins in the series and can afford it, but otherwise I would be returning this one back to The Mint for a refund.

Just OK

Unique shape and good quality. The design isn't very attractive to me though. As a native Chinese I can only find a very weak connection between ox and prosperity. Also, it think it may be a better idea using simpler design on such a small coin. Many details can only be appreciated in larger image.
