The Royal Canadian Mint (the Mint) is hiring a Senior Director, Winnipeg Manufacturing who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Vice-President Operations, the Senior Director, Winnipeg Manufacturing, is responsible for the leadership and overall management of the Winnipeg facility including oversight for staffing, production and direction of the management team. The individual is required to demonstrate strong leadership skills, working closely with Executive and other Senior Management, to realize efficiencies and synergies across the organization. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and sustainable use of plant resources and equipment, reducing deficiencies and optimizing production plans to minimize operating costs and deliver outstanding customer service.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the operational and financial targets are met for the facility and that the delivery of these services is consistent with, and in support of, Corporate Objectives and Operational Plans.
  • Continuously improve a physically, psychologically and environmentally safe workplace focused on teamwork, recognition and inclusion.
  • Lead the preparation of specifications regarding quality, quantity, delivery and service required for purchase of plant equipment, supplies and materials to meet production schedules, production costs and quality standards – including plating, circulation blanks production, packaging and shipping process, coining and die production.
  • Manage a staff of about 300 unionized and non-unionized employees, 24/7 operations.
  • Ensure the procedures established under ISO9001:2008 and ISO14001:2015 standards are maintained in accordance with the requirements, such that there are no major non-conformances during the ISO audit review.
  • Adhere to the security policies of the Mint with precision and consistency.
  • In cooperation with local and Corporate Communication resources, provide effective liaison with local media and public officials as required.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional organizational skills and having the resilience to work under pressure, managing multiple demands and the ability to meet tight timeframes with follow-through action.
  • Demonstrate visible, active, positive and inclusive leadership.
  • Able to motivate, coach and elevate a diversified team of manufacturing and engineering leaders.
  • Able to listen and communicate effectively with employees at various levels.
  • Experience in successfully negotiating and leading major changes through the implementation of a business or a system transformation.
  • Demonstrate strong collaborative skills with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Ability to apply analytical skills and a range of problem-solving methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Activity Based Costing, Forecasting and Risk Assessment.
  • Minimum of 15 years of operational experience running manufacturing processes in a unionized environment with a track record of delivering results on safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive management experience.
  • University Degree in business or commerce, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) an asset.
  • Knowledge of French is an asset.
